Well another month has gone by and the Volume-036 Back Issue Videos have now been added to the Polymer Clay Library. Video-036-1 Faux Metal Mokume Gane: With all the new metallic colors being launched in the Premo Accents line of polymer clay this year, now is the perfect time to create a more traditional looking Faux Metal Mokume Gane technique. Designed to mimic a wood grain pattern in layers of different metals, you can get a similar effect by using polymer clay in metallic colors. I think you are going to be thrilled with how easy and great looking this cool polymer clay technique really is!
Video-036-2 Rolled Mokume Gane: Since there is always more than one way to do something, especially with polymer clay, this tutorial shows you yet another version of the faux mokume gane technique. Be prepared to have a lot of fun with this one!
Video-036-3 Wire Leaf Charm: Here is a neat little jewelry finding you can make… that has big potential! In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how to make the wire component for a simple leaf charm design. Then in the next Vol-036-4 tutorial, I will take the lesson further by showing how you can add polymer clay to create some fabulous mixed media charms, pendants and other jewelry elements.
Video-036-4 Add Clay to Leaf Charms: In the previous Vol-036-e tutorial, I demonstrated how to create your own wire leaf charms that can be used as components for your polymer clay jewelry projects. As a follow up, in this tutorial I show how to add polymer clay to the wire charms… in a bunch of different and very creative ways!
Also included in this Volume-036 back issue package, are the A-Series recipe cards from the Desert Oasis Palette.

Thanks guys, I am glad you are enjoying it here! Hope all our American friends had a great Memorial Day holiday. Even though our Victoria Day long weekend was last week, the kids did have the day off school yesterday for a teachers professional day, so it felt like a long weekend around here too!

@Patty W: Hi Patty, I haven’t had the pleasure yet (but I’m excited by Catalina’s comment that her Michael’s now carries the new colors!) But there’s been lots of talk in recent threads here about how soft these new colors are. Use the search box…try “new Premo colors” or something similar, and you’ll find them (along with tips on how to deal with the super soft clay!) The thinking behind the softness seems to be the freshness of the brand-new clay…

Is the new Future floor wax the same as that sold years back. I called the company and they said it has polymers in it. Is that what I want ?? Having so much fun paying with the clay. Just finished the last of the beginner series. A few of my friends have gathered together with me on Thurs. noon for 3 hours to create and share It’s exciting.
@Joan O: Hi Joan, if you’re in the US, the Pledge with Future Shine product is the same as the old Future. If you use the search box at the top left, you’ll find a couple of Cindy’s posts about Future, and they have comments regarding this (use your browser’s “find” function to sort thru the long threads — CNTRL + F in Int. Explorer…)
[In other countries, that isn’t necessarily the case. For example, the product that replaced “Klear” in the UK is different.]
I just tried the faux metal mokume gane with the new Premo Accent clay. What gorgeous color! However I was wondering if anyone else thought the clay was too soft? almost sticky? I had to put my block in the freezer for awhile before I could get thin slices.
@Phaedrakat: Thanks so much! Great name, btw. LOL! I also love your profile pic. I’m a cat person too (I have 5), and because of that, I have to have a separate room for working with polymer clay. Although I still get a cat hair here and there in my clay. It can be very frustrating. Do you have the same problem? So nice meeting you Kat! :-)
Have not started sanding my pendants yet as I am still very new and working on the cane processes etc but wonder what you do when you have little flowers that are raised on the surface ? Do you have to do these pendants as a 2 part project? Would appreciate any info…
@Joan O: I am sorry Joan for taking so long to answer your question. It is getting very busy around here as I am sure you can appreciate. I could use about three more of me, to get it all done in the time I would like it to.
As far as sanding pendants with raised flowers like you are describing, you would only need to sand the smooth surfaces, such as the sides and the back. Don’t worry too much about tiny little features like the flowers for sanding. Just try your best to make the surface as smooth and fingerprint free as possible before baking.
If you really feel the piece needs some sanding after baking, you can use a strong solvent such as Acetone to remove marks in hard to reach places. But although it works well, it is a pretty powerful chemical and I prefer not to use it. (I don’t want to kill my remaining brain cells. I need them!)
If you do a nice enough job when making the pendant, you shouldn’t have to bake the pendants as a two part project. But if you want the background to be perfect, and you do not mind the extra work, you could do it that way if you wish. In that case, you may want to use some Sculpey Bake and Bond to help ‘glue’ your raw clay flowers, to your baked and sanded pendant blank, before baking a second time. This will help secure the bond between the raw and baked clay.

Thanks so much for the sanding info now I have a new question. I have a good sized tubbler left over from rock hound days,have youall had success with putting beads and or pendants in for the sanding sanding If so, what medium do you use [sand, salt,???]Joan O
@Joan O: Hi Joan. Yes you can use your tumbler for sanding your polymer clay beads. In fact I did a tutorial on that some time ago, that teaches you everything you need to know about doing that. It is in Vol-011 in the Back Issues if you don’t already own that volume. Click the link by my name for more info and to watch a preview video clip.
I am searching for “shadow” technique. Do you know what I am talking about? I have it in some of my books, but now I cannot find it.
