Thoughts of Spring for all my Polymer Clay Artist Friends

I don't know about you, but it's only January and I'm already dying for Spring! It's been pouring rain for months around here in Vancouver, and I'm feeling very done with these damp dark days.
That's why I decided to post the cheery picture above, of the basket of pansy flower blooms. Hopefully this picture as well as the inspirational words from Kody-K, help to lift everyone's spirits.
With the world coming to our doorstep in just a few weeks from now, for the 2010 Winter Olympics, I'm sure the organizers of this huge event are praying for more snow to fall up in our local mountains. But it seems that most of that white stuff is ending up in the rest of Canada, many parts of the US and much of England. What's up with that?
My husband Doug, took this photo of a mini rock Inukshuk when we went up to Whistler Mountain at the end of Summer 2009, for a family vacation. Whistler is just a few hours drive north of where we live, and it is where many of the 2010 Olympic downhill events will be taking place. If you did not know, the Inukshuk rock formation, is what the Olympic logo was fashioned from.

For inspiration, I like to walk around and see stuff nearby, like the first spring sun coming through the first greenery of the season, layering through the canopy, and I think to myself, dang, how could I make something that captures that moment out of polymer clay. ~Jocelyn-C

Thank you for the beautiful picture. I LOVE pansies/violets. It is exciting to hear the Olympics will be so close to you. The weather and snow Whistler has needed has definitely fallen in Iowa. Our 15 inches of snow in December is finally beginning to melt. We are getting a new snow storm this weekend and I would be happy to send some your way.

We are chinooking over her Cindy and while it is nice we also know it won't last and -40C will hit us once more. Pics of pansies and anything else spring related – or even happiness related – are really appreciated by me.

Pansies, one of my favorites and thinking spring seems to be what most of us are wishing for no matter the location. Here in Florida we had a solid two weeks of very cold weather for us. 32'F left us with some frost
covered plants that left the leaves a dull brown. Will they recover? I think so. With the sunshine and the heat returning in the afternoons it shouldn't be too long before we see some buds and then the blossoms.
So in the meantime its wonderful to see some cheerful pictures, Cindy,
and stay inside and play with the clay. Thanks for posting both pictures.

Well, I'm not ready for spring yet! I retired to a ski area in Vermont four years ago and I ski three or four days a week.
Cindy you're so lucky to live in such a beautiful area with the wonderful city of Vancouver so close. We've had a couple of ski vacations to Whistler and done some sightseeing in Vancouver. I sure do hope that the mountains get a couple of big snowfalls in time for the Olympics!

I'm jealous Linda K, I always wanted to learn to ski. It looks like a lot of fun! Unfortunately we don't usually get much snow here in the UK and we don't have much in the way of mountains either…
I like snow too, so I don't mind if we get more snow here, but I'm looking forward to being able to get planting in my vegetable garden again.
I love Jocelyn's quote about "capturing" things in clay – I saw Avatar in 3D the other night and I had so many moments in the film where I was thinking "Wow, look at the colours/textures there, how can I recreate that idea in polymer clay?"
Sounds like the start of one of those lists, "You know you're obsessed with polymer clay when…" ;)

How funny Silverleaf! I was thinking the same thing during the movie too! We are all obsessed with this stuff, aren't we? I am constantly seeing colors and patterns that I am eager to reproduce in polymer clay. My family knows that half-glazed look in my eyes by now and just roll their eyes…"there goes Mom again!"

Wonderful picture! I love pansies! Same here about the weather (im in Indiana), we got lots of snow, then lots of rain and now fog and drizzle. It is so YUCK out right now!

Well Spring sure feels like it's happening around here now! All the plants in the garden seem to think so, cause they are all starting to bud. Hopefully we don't get a cold snap to set everything back.
Thank you so much everyone for all your lovely comments. You may have noticed that I am just getting so busy now that I can't keep up with all the comments like I used to be able to.
An extra thank you goes to all of you regulars who keep the conversations going while I'm busy and answer the questions I can't seem to get to. I am trying to figure out how to handle the volume of activity and still keep those videos coming. So thanks again everyone for the help!!!!

That's one of the things that make this whole 'community' so special. We are a community of artists, at all different levels of experience. We are not competing with one another but are willing to share our ideas and our questions without fear of being taken advantage of, or being laughed at. You've brought us together, and are helping us to grow, but it is up to us to do our part too. If we want you to continue producing the great videos, we have to help wherever and whenever we can.
