Updated November 6, 2009: – Free Access No Longer Avail. Recently I have published a series of articles about a new method for creating quick and easy, polymer clay color gradients. Initial feedback has been very positive. You can read all of the comments at the original articles (links provided further down on this page), but here are a few of them just to give you an idea of what others are saying…
Now you’re talkin’ Cindy! This is just what I mean about you being such an asset to the polymer clay online community. And you are so generous to share this brilliant idea with all of us. This is such a good idea, makes things real fast! ~Iris-M
Sheer genius, and thanks to be that you are a sharer. Just cut my workload down by such an amount that now I will have time to experiment with more new techniques. This one tip just about paid back a lot of money invested in subscription as a time and clay saver. Congrats, and keep up the great work! ~Jocelyn-C
What a great technique! I think I would still use the Skinner Blend for 2 colors but when I want more than 2 colors, this is much easier! YES – Put your name on it! You should get credit for this new technique! ~Gayle-T
I created a video tutorial to demonstrate this teardrop method technique. It is posted in the members library. However, I’ve received so many emails asking that I make the video available for public viewing.
So that is what I am going to do… but just for a limited time. All I ask is that after you watch the video, could you please leave a comment. There is a big “Questions /Comments” button beside the video that brings you back to the blog here where you can jot down your thoughts.
Here is the Link to the Full Video at the Library:

Fantastic. I’m going to dive or get off the board now and sign up for membership.
Cindy, you rock! What a pleasant surprise to wake up and have my morning coffee with, a freebie! You said this is “another” way to do a skinner blend, not so. This is the ONLY way to do the Leitz blend! Thank you, thank you, thank you :)
that looks terrific, so much quicker & easier. another good thing is that u can use a little bit to test out to see if u like the colors, so u are not wasting much clay. everyone is right. if u come up w/something u should put your name to it somehow. good job. looking forward to all your improvements.
What a wonderful technique, Cindy! You’ve saved us all so much effort with this. Thanks for being generous and sharing the video with us for a limited time. It’s awesome!
THAT was awesome! And thanx for the pointers on rolling the sheet to make it blend faster! I tried it a few days ago before you released the video – and you’re right – it was WAY faster than the traditional way…kudos to you!
Very clever…how neat. Thanks SO much for sharing this great time-saver.
WOW! I’ve been putting off purchasing a pasta machine for the Skinner blend because it looks so tedious. You are blessed with such a creative mind and now you’ve outdone yourself and have saved thousands of polyclay artists time, money, and frustration by inventing this unique alternative! Can’t wait to try it out, thanks Cindy!
Sharon
this seems much easier to do and to understand…

Lots of folks have commented on how helpful this video was. I am a paid member that gets the weekly videos and can assure you all of Cindy’s videos are of equal quality. I have learned so much from these newsletter and videos. I encourage you to become a paid member, the quality is excellent and the monthly price is extremely reasonable at less than $1.00 per week. You can give it a try for 3 months and cancel if you wish. Plus, I make fewer mistakes and save money by not wasting clay: I already have enough scrap clay to pave my driveway. I also feel I am getting a lot of benefit plus am contributing to another artist to keep the arts alive; that is important to me !!!
The other added benefit is Cindy is soon going to do a Raku video that you will not want to miss.
Thank you so much for the Lietz Teardrop Blend. I used it this week and it worked great. I made a Brain Cane that needed a Skinner blend and it was so much faster to use your method. I am a member, so I already had seen the video. When I needed the Skinner blend, I just came back and viewed your Lietz Teardrop and I had no problems!

Cindy, I’ve posted a link to your blog on my blog. Please feel free to let me know if you’d like anything changed in what I’ve said.
Hi Cindy
Wow thank you for the work you put into developing this technique. The video is well done and your directions are very clear!
Thanks!
The is a WOW for me. I love skinner blends but HATE things that take a long time to achieve….so this is PERFECT for me. Did I mention WOW? :)
BTW…Thanks to Anna a few posts ahead of this I now just HAVE to subscribe to the videos.

I really loved your version of the blend. I have done the skinner blend and it does take alot of time. Thanks so much for sharing the video with us all!!!!!!! Lynn Watts
WOW That is amazing. Thank you for letting us non-members have a peek.
I love it. I work on my clay after the kids go to bed at night, so this will help me cut my blending times down especially when I am experimenting. Plus I have a hungry pasta machine, so I will be able to keep most of my clay for me and less for my p.m. Thank You!!!
Wow you are wonderful, I am new to clay and can not get that skinner blend to work for me. Have ended up with more mud than blend! Now that I have seen your great tuts, I am joining so I get even more! Thanks again.
Thanks for the video! I tried it and it’s amazing :D So much faster! :D I love doing blends now :P
Hi Cindy! Lietz Teardrop Blend!..What a great shortcut! I’m so proud to be a member!I have missed alot of the excitement and I missed the video but I saw the tutorials and comments and will try to play catch up. So much has happened. I’m trying to find a time to read members and non members, comments, download colors, find treasure hunt colors and breathe. You have made my days brighter! Thanks Cindy
Thank you so much everyone!! So glad you’re all liking the technique. It is always nice when something that was complicated can become so super simple. It leaves out brains and hands free for more creating… and that’s what we’re all here for!
Now go out there and make some great canes with your new blends. For all you that have always wanted to learn to make polymer clay canes, you can get started on making the basic leaf cane. There’s a new tutorial on it now in the library. Enjoy!
Hi Cindy! I am just getting back into clay after a long hiatus and I must say I love the new Lietz blend method, saves so much time! you rock! *smile*
Thank you very much SusanAnn! I’m glad to hear that you’ve come back to polymer clay. There are so many cool new things being done with it now. I think you are really going to enjoy it!

Thank you so much for the information about teardrop method. I am sorry I couldn’t remember who originally wrote about it. I should have known it was you. I read your articles all the time and have found a lot of good information. Thanks for sharing! I didn’t know if this would work for me but I find it works better than a regular skinner blend. Again, thank you very much for the information.
Thank you Dori for your comments on the Teardrop Blend. I’m glad it works better for you, and I appreciate you saying that.

@Carol: So nice to hear from you from so far away in Australia! It must be getting pretty warm now that it is heading into your summer. Thank you so much for your comments!
@VAharoni: Thank you Valerie! That means a lot coming from a talented polymer clay artist like you!
What a fabulous idea, and timesaver too! As a newbie to Skinner Blends I have a hard time getting the “triangles” just right, this looks right up my alley. Can’t wait to share the Lietz Teardrop Blend with my Polymer Clay Guild.
Thanks Cindy!
So glad to hear the technique is helpful for you Katina. That’s wonderful that you would like to share this idea with your Guild. If you would like your members to be able to see the video, please let them know about it right away. The tutorial video normally requires a members password to watch it. But I had a lot of people asking me to make it public, so I did. But only for a few more days. All the best, Cindy.
