How to Make Rose Petal Beads from Polymer Clay and Dried Flowers

Beads From FLower Petals

If you ask, you may just get exactly what you want… Flower petal inclusion video, a full tutorial:

The following dialog is is from an email conversation I recently had with a subscriber about how to make beads from flower petals.

CYNTHIA (aka cynister):I signed up for your Guest List & began looking through your site. I wanted to watch the video on flower petal beads but I can’t seem to find where I do that in its full version. I can only see the preview. Where do I find that?

CINDY (aka polymer clay tutor): Thanks for your interest in my bead videos. Many of the polymer clay tutorials I produce are designed to go into courses that are available for purchase. However, that flower petal video will likely be released at some point down the road in my free video newsletter. Sorry I don’t know exactly when it will be released, so stay tuned…

CYNTHIA: Thanks for the quick response. I enjoy watching your videos & look forward to there being more topics available.  I really hope the flower bead video is released soon as I am very interested in that in particular. Thank you!

Well cynister, this week’s free newsletter video will be all about mixing dried flower pieces with translucent polymer clay to make a rose petal bead or any other type of flower bead you choose. They can be used as memorial beads, prayer beads, rosary beads, or for unique jewelry to celebrate a special occasion.

If you use Fimo Classic Translucent clay, your beads will have a whitish color to them whereas Premo gives the beads a yellowish glow. Some petals and pot pourri contain dyes in them and these can sometimes bleed into the clay for an interesting effect.

So if you have ever wanted to make some special beads as a memento to a special event, the upcoming video is worth seeing. Here’s a link to page where you can get subscribed: Polymer Clay Tutorials Guest List

And here’s a link to a sneak peak clip taken from the full video that will be sent out in a few days: Beads From Flower Petals

Oh and feel free to tell your friends about subscribing to my video newsletter as well. I’ve already been receiving emails from non-subscribers asking how to get access to the bead making videos released in previous weeks. Sorry, but you have to be on the guest list to receive them. I promise to make it worth your while :)

Did you know that rosary beads were originally made of rose petals? You can make your own modern day version of prayer beads with the petals of your favorite flower and polymer clay.

    Hi Cindy,

Yes, I’m already doing this! I use the dried flowers from a memorial service to create special rememberances for grieving friends and family.

Penny that is a good question! Yes you are correct about using translucent clay. The flower petals are mixed into the translucent clay.

Many people have asked me how to make beads using dried flowers so I did some video tutorials on just exactly how to do it.

If you click the link by my name you can purchase Volume-003 in the Back Issues of my Polymer Clay Library which contains the Dried Flower Inclusion video you need plus 3 other valuable videos and 5 color mixing recipes.

The flower inclusion video will give you everything that you need to make beautiful beads with your mom’s roses.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Cindy: I did a Google search on rose petal beads and found your site. First off, let me say that your site looks like it contains tons of valuable information for people like me. Second off, I have absolutely no experience in bead making but I would like to get started by making the translucent polymer beads with crushed flower petals. I’m just not sure how purchasing your videos works. Do I need to purchase a “beginners” video, and any interim videos, before I can comprehend the video of flower petal beads? Thank you, Lisa Bolton

@Lisa Bolton: Hi Lisa, welcome to the site! I am glad you found us. You are right… there is tons of helpful polymer clay information here :-)

As far as learning how to make flower petal beads, there are a few options for you, depending on your polymer clay experience.

If you have never worked with polymer clay, or you have run into problems such as burnt pieces, breakage, poorly finished products or projects that just didn’t turn out as professional as you would have liked, then the Basics Course is definitely the place to start. There have even been several people who were somewhat experienced clayers that got a lot of value from the course, so I do recommend it, if you are interested. The link by my name will take you to the info page on the course. And here is a link to where feedback about the course has been posted.

Now if you already have a fair amount of experience with polymer clay, but not specifically beads, you will find most of the tutorials I film are easy enough to follow without taking the course. So it is totally up to you.

In addition to the translucent flower petal bead tutorial on this page, I recently produced a new tutorial called Rose Petal Beads, that takes the flower petal beads to a whole new level. This video is in Vol-034-1 and if you are excited about doing the beads in the above video, I think you are really going to love this new version too. You can watch the preview clip here: Rose Petal Beads

So hope that helps with your decision. If you need any help with your order or anything else, do ask. We are always happy to help!

    Hi Cindy,

I just purchased your Vol-003 Back Issue to get the Rose Petal Inclusion video, and also found the Vol-034-1 Rose Petal Beads video.

Love your site – I am starting a business where I preserve flowers and put them in shadow box displays and really want to add this as another option for brides or memorial customers. Have never made any jewelry before so your site is a lifesaver! Going to get your polymer clay basics course too :)

    Thanks!
    Heather
