This is such a fun picture for me. Not just the goofy grin on this burlap scarecrow… but also the mixture of seasons this picture represents.
A scarecrow usually says Fall… but this Scarecrow has snow on it’s hat… so clearly it is Winter. Yeah I know… I should have brought him in out of the cold a while ago.
And the brightly colored leaves in the background with the sun shining through… that almost seems like Spring or Summer! But if you look carefully, the lower leaves are covered in snow too. It’s like this picture just couldn’t decide what season it was… so it appears to be showing all of them at once.
Well regardless, the colors on this cute scarecrow all have a lovely Earthy tone to them. It makes a wonderful set of colors for this New Years Winter Palette, that I think will be very usable in your polymer clay projects.

[wp_ad_camp_1] … Raspberry Patch is the dusty berry pink of this Scarecrow’s faded burlap shirt… and possibly the same color as the Raspberries he stood and protected in the patch over the Summer and Fall. Green Burlap is a muted dark gray green of the sun bleached and rain washed burlap collar, adorning his shirt. Gunny Sack is the dirtied, natural color of the Burlap that wraps his adorable smiling face. And Scarecrow Hat is the soft dirty brown of his floppy bedraggled hat.
WOW – Your inspiration not only comes across in my clay world but in my world of color too. I’m not very disciplined when it comes to making my own colors even though you have it all layed out for us. I am so inspired by this group of colors. Once again, thank you for being you Cindy. Your recipes for different colors are priceless and such a time saver. I took index cards, printed the color and recipe on them then glued a baked sample on the card. Now when I need that just so color I can just find it on my index card and whip it up with out the waste and mistakes of finding just what one I need. Fantastic!! Thanks. ~Yvonne-B

Hi Cindy. This is a question about this Winter Scarecrow palette.
Candy Pink and Cobalt Blue? Can we get those colors online somewhere?
Hi Christine, there was a couple of errors in the Winter Scarecrow Palette, which have been corrected now. There is no Candy pink in the recipes so you don’t need to worry about that. As far as the Cobalt Blue in the Glass Dragonfly Palettes, Cobalt is available in several places. In the multi packs of Premo from Michaels. Or in 2 oz blocks online at the sculpeyproducts web site.
I’m confused. The recipes I downloaded for the Raspberry Patch and the Green Burlap colors don’t seem to match the images. It looks like the recipe for the Green Burlap (fuchsia, black and white) will make the Raspberry Patch color and the recipe for the Raspberry Patch (candy pink and white) will make a pale pink, not the darker red shown.
Hi Susan, somehow the recipes got messed up when they were added to the cards this time. It’s all fixed now and Doug has uploaded the correct versions of the color recipe cards. Thanks for letting us know and sorry about the confusion.
Hi Cindy, I’m having a real “brain fart” moment. Did you have a palette or project recently that called for zinc yellow. I asked you recently about Cobalt Blue and you did give me some useful information. But I swear there was something, somewhere about zinc yellow. I have ordered and received both the Cobalt Blue and Zinc Yellow online but cannot remember what the Zinc Yellow was for….I’m getting too old…LOL
Geez I have the same brain farts myself! :) It is fine that you got the Zinc Yellow, though I haven’t used it lately in any recipes, I have several of the older recipes with it in it. It makes some really gorgeous greens, so it is an important color to have in your clay box!
