Video #308: Roadtrip #1-13: Bet you’re wondering how this frog ties into the story… Ribbet!
Well we have finally come to the end of our video blogs for the first inaugural PcT Roadtrip. What a great adventure it was! Can’t wait to start planning the next one.
We were thinking of squeezing in a trip before the end of this 2012 year, over the Christmas break, but it will depend on how busy we are with the business… and whether there are any members close enough who we would want to visit with us over the holiday season.
Then of course there is the weather to consider as well. If it gets too snowy or icy, that would not be good for towing a big trailer!
Whether or not it works for us to get away at Christmas this year, there will definitely be more opportunities for more roadtrips in 2013 and beyond.
Any way, in this final vlog post we would like to share with you a video of our final pit stop before driving further North and heading back across the border to Canada and our cozy home.
We chose the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge as our place to stop and meet with two more members of our community. Even though I say the name of this Refuge Park slowly and deliberately in the video, you’ll notice that I still don’t quite get it right, lol!
This Nisqually Refuge was a perfect meetup location because it was right off the I5… it had a big enough parking lot for our rig… and was a pretty place to wait until our guests could arrive. Unfortunately both members canceled, which left us with a little time to have a nice lunch and a quick walk around before finishing the last leg of your journey.
Now since we had a little extra time, Doug thought it would be a good for me to show you how all the craft and polymer clay supplies were stored while traveling. So here you go…
Doesn’t Willow’s beautiful Polymer Clay Faux Wooden Spoon look lovely on the wall? You should feel the finish on it… its smooth as butter!
And the gorgeous pink rose on top of the storage unit… did you notice that too? That was a birthday gift from Karonkay Cowger who you all got to meet in the first first video in this PcT Roadtrip series. Thank you again Karen for the amazing gift! The rose is going to be a permanent part of our trailers decor. Everyone who visits us will get the chance to see just how beautiful your flowers really are!
Since we didn’t really show you too much of the park, I thought you would enjoy this quick video I found on YouTube on the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge (not Reserve).

You are sooo clever! Good planning – you stuffed a lot of things in your cabinet! Amazing what you can take. Like these glimpses of you life on the road!
Thanks Patt! I was amazed how much went into that cabinet, plus if I had been more clever I could have put in even more! The problem is weight though… both for towing the trailer and for the wheels on the drawer unit. Any heavier and you start running into problems.
It’s nice to have your creative stuff with you when you travel. I ended up making a couple of really long Kumihimo cords on the trip, that I would not have had time to make at home.
Glad you liked the glimpses of life on the road. Maybe we’ll be able to see you one of these times? I’d love that!
Well that’s a whole lot of memories you have given us Cindy. Loved being able to meet different members of this interesting community. Seeing their spin on the lessons you have taught and getting wonderful glimpses of their lives and the places they come from.
It was amazing to see the “stuff” you could pack into your storage cabinet. When ever we go on the road I get ticked off for taking too much “stuff” but you never know what you will need, especially if the unexpected happens.
So thanks to Cindy, Doug, Fisher and Willow for letting us all enjoy your “maiden voyage”. I expect you all enjoyed your road trip. We certainly did and look forward to many more…………….cheers xx……………….

You do realise it’s nearly 3am here, I should have been in bed hours ago but you know when creativity kicks in there is no such time as bed-time. Just strung a long necklace but took it all apart as it was not quite right so will now hit the hay and dream of a new design………………….good night, sweet dreams my friend xx…………………………………..
Just enjoyed your whole trip and as I had been away from my own area for about 10 years and am trying to get to know what all is here again. I was in search of fellow polymer clay artists, low and be hold you gave me a start with local folks. Thanks again for your great videos of our area and our locals and of course their work from your tutorials. Now to go surfing (internet that is)

Hi Cindy and Doug – your ‘road trip’ has been very exciting, almost like having a tour of the USA myself! Since it’s unlikely I’ll get over again in the near future this was a really lovely ‘second best’! I got all the atmosphere from the places you visited, and the excitement of your members as you sat with them making your videos! What a privilege!
Here’s something I’d like to ask you Cindy, whether this is the type of tutorial you can provide, or whether it’s into a different subject, I don’t know. But I read of someone who makes her own texture sheets using ‘photopolymer plates’ and if it’s possible I’d love to know how to do this.

Thank you Marion! We have been home since September. The videos just took awhile to get out to you guys since we only put out 1 or 2 a week. Yes it is starting to get chilly (and rainy) around here. No snow or freezing yet in our area, so it makes it good for getting around. Lots of snow on the mountains this year though, so the ski hills have opened early.
Thank you for your tutorial request. I haven’t yet worked with photo polymer plates, but I have seen them and they are definitely something I would love to start making. Will put it on the list and see what I can do.
So glad to hear that your first adventure was such a wonderful success. It was such a
priveledge to come along with you, Doug, Willow and Fisher. What an experience for all of
you. There seemed to be beauty everywhere, the friendly members, their spouses and friends and nature. I hope someday you will be able to meet with members from the UK, Australia and elsewhere. Orlando, Florida may not be foreign but it could be packed with fun,
Harry Potter is a must see so I’ve been told. Lots of space for your camper and how many members from Florida might be able to get there with enough planning. Always something to look forward to. If you pack up over the Christmas Holidays I hope you have wonderful weather and a safe trip. Nice to see how much you can pack in such a small area. Weight always seems to be the issue with plastic. You did a great job to get all that “stuff” on board.
I packed so much into our vehicle when we spent part of the year here in Florida before we became permanent residents. My DH always wondered how we made it back and forth, just lucky I guess. But there were always those items that I just might need. Thanks again, Cindy,

Hey Cindy, you could always make a much shorter road trip to our Guild Christmas brunch/party being held at Jem’s home in Richmond this year. You were there a couple of years ago. Day parties now as so many don’t like to drive long distances at night ;-)

I was really hoping to get to see you, Nettonya and the gang since I haven’t been able to see you at all this year. Also wanted to ask you about Horizons and what that is all about.
Been so busy this year that I haven’t been following the group (or anything else for that matter). Been working on a lot of behind the scenes stuff with Doug and haven’t been as social as we would like. If it hadn’t been for the Roadtrip this year, we may not have even come out of our studio/offices even once! I’ll let you know if myself or any of the other Lietz clan are able to get out to the guild party. Sure hope to see you there!
I cannot believe how much I enjoyed this road trip, from start to finish. It was a combination of National Geographic magazine, and the best of polymer clay community in that section of the country. I so appreciate all the hard work that went into it.
Future trips to craft saturated areas like Florida, Michigan, and the like might show a need to change since I can just picture folks standing in lines encircling your encampment, lol. You all will find a wonder way to handle it too.
The bungee cord idea is ingenious and applicable in a lot of situations. California or other earthquake regions could benefit. But, me too here in ground stable CT. Those high plastic towers loaded with goodies are unstable, and with that technique, can see where you could add storage space where you would dare to before. Yay!
However, if you do anchor, make sure you find a stud in the wall, or use the appropriate holders if not. You could tear a chunk out of drywall if not installed correctly.
I am super glad you liked the videos Jocelyn! One day we are going to come and see you. Great tips on using the bungee cord idea in your home/studio/office. You made some excellent points! Doug was lucky to find some solid wood to screw the hooks into in the trailer. The walls are pretty flimsy and would have ripped out on the first corner we turned if he had not anchored them properly. Same thing (minus driving around corners lol) could happen at home as well. Thanks for bringing that up!
I love your site and would hate to lose even one of the e-mails and tutorials. I am enjoying seeing the people you are seeing across the country. It is so much better when you have the face to go with the names. Thanks Cindy, I have gotten so many great ideas from you.

Congratulations! You did it! And what a beautiful job of it, too! As for me, I loved all the videos, seeing all these great faces and wonderful projects. I vote for that you do it again…and it looks as though you guys voted on that before me!
