Are you longing for walks on the beach at sunset, and playing in the warm water like my children are in this beautiful photograph? I am too!
Here on the west coast of Canada, Spring is trying really hard to arrive. And the warmth of Summer is not too far off now. So here is a gorgeous color palette to get you fired up for the warm weather ahead!
When choosing photos for color palettes, I always look for ones with at least four distinct colors that flow nicely together.
There is something about how nature mixes her palette when creating a sunset that is very inspiring. What is particularly intriguing about this sunset (besides the sweet silhouettes of my kids playing in the water) is the deep smoky colors with the warm burst of brightness from the sun.
A quick note about computer screens and color representations… everyone’s monitor is going to be calibrated differently. So that means that the clay samples in the color palette photos are only going to be close approximations. The only way to see them accurately is to mix up the recipes for real.
The following individual recipes will be released next month into the Polymer Clay Tutor Library as part of the Volume-011 B-Series:

“Beach Sunset” is the dusky coral orange of the outer edges of the Sun as it slips below the Horizon. “Setting Sun” is the buttery soft yellow of the Sun as it struggles to stay part of the scene. “Dusty Sky” is a gray blue of the evening sky. And “Horizon” is the smoky purple sky that sits along the waters edge waiting to give into the night sky.

If you would like to add two more colors to this lovely summer palette consider a soft light gray like the clouds in the photo and a black with a touch of Horizon mixed in like the color of the silhouettes. This will add some neutrals of dark and light to your palette.
As a paid member is there any way to access the “bonus” color recipes after they are no longer “live” for free for everyone? I can’t seem to find them.

Thanks for your question about the bonus recipes. I’ll take this opportunity to explain to you, as well as everyone else, how they work.
Each month with your paid library subscription, you automatically receive 4 weekly tutorial videos and 4 weekly A-Recipes in your personal library account. These member recipes and videos are available 24/7. The library member cost works out to just $3.32 per month. I have purposely kept this cost so low to keep membership affordable for as broad an audience as possible.
The B-Recipes (Bonus-Recipes) are given away for free to those who subscribe to my Polymer Clay Newsletter. The download link for each of these Bonus Recipes is only available for 1 week.
The reason for the time limited access is so that everyone has a good reason to visit my free blog at least weekly.
While you are retrieving your free recipe gift, my hope is that you will also read an article or two; Pick up some valuable polymer clay bead making tips along the way; And maybe even take the time to leave a comment.

I don’t know what I am doing wrong but as a paid member I have always been able to access the Weekly A color but have been able to get only 5 or 6 of the free B color recipes. I don’t get it because I read all of your articles. So I have no idea what I have been doing wrong. Access to the Bonus recipes I have missed would be greatly appreciated.

Cindy, thank you for the reply. I love the videos and the recipes. However, I do not sit down and read (watch)them on a daily basis. I’m retired and I travel, watch my granddaughter and do numerous other activities in addition to working with polymer clay. When I can I sit down and “get caught up” on the videos and newsletter. When I have questions about something I go back and relook at the videos or reread the blog.
Somehow I thought as a paid member I would have access to all the past recipes just like the videos. Therefore I did not download or print them. I would love to be able to reference the site and have access to all the recipes. Thank you, Lynn

@Lynn – You share a similar situation with many of the library members regarding your travel schedule and family priorities. I completely understand this. That is why your paid subscription is set up to give you 24/7 access to both the weekly videos AND the A-Recipes. As long as you keep your subscription payment current, you will have access to this content whenever you have time to catch up. You also have 24/7 access to all of the articles I publish at my free blog.
Where there seems to be some confusion is with the B-Recipes. These are not included with the paid member accounts. They have been kept separate ever since the launch of the library back in October 2008. They are an added perk that’s free for everyone… when they are made available. As I explained above, they are designed to encourage readership at my blog. Hopefully that clears things up for you Lynn.

I treasure each and every recipe and know you put a lot of effort into creating these beautiful pallets. The reason I was missing the B recipes was because I read the post daily and some times the B recipe link was added to a blog/article I had already read. This whole A and B recipe got me confused. To me a bonus is an added value and the Bonus Recipe (B recipe) would only be an extra perk for paid members until I realized I had all the A recipes and almost none of the B recipes which really confused me.
How about listing the Bonus recipes in the newsletter for one week and then moving them to the color library with the A recipes so paid subscribers would have access?

It seems that using the word “Bonus” to describe the B-Series Recipes is causing too much confusion. It’s best to think of them as the B-Series Recipes and not as a Bonus Series.
From the start, they were never meant to be a Bonus for Paid Members. They are just something that I use to encourage everyone to visit the blog regularly… both paid members and free visitors.
I will use the B-Recipes for prizes and give aways in future contests and promotions, as I have already done several times in the past. This will be one way to get a hold of missing B-Recipes for your collection.
I’ve also received emails from several members who are just too busy to follow the blog as often as they would like. They have requested that I simply compile all of the B-Recipes into one convenient package that would be available for purchase.
@Cindy from List of what Members Receive Monthly for $3.32: Cindy! You’re killing me! (HUGE groan) We go on vacation camping in the Thousand Islands, New York, every year for vacation. And every year I take the most breathtaking pictures of the sun setting across the St. Lawrence River (we can see the Canadian flags flying on the other side!). This color palette would be absolutely perfect, but it’s a B-series recipe.. Is there any way we can get B-series color recipes? I’m going through and saving all the pictures from the palettes to print small versions to glue on the individual recipe cards that go with it and I came across some that I absolutely have to have or I think I’ll wither away to nothing (don’t worry, I’ve got a lot of “withering” to do til I get there!). I picked up some “beach-y” photo albums this year- with sea-grass and twig decorations on the front and I’m trying to think of pc embellishments to make and attach since the island (Wellesley) we stay on has a beach we go to. I also take lots of pics of flowers and plants while we’re there, so making some kind of flowers in these colors would be perfect! I’ll take no for an answer if I have to, but I’m not above begging if it would help! LOL!! ~ Tanya
Your commitment and enthusiasm for us is incredible and beyond what is available anywhere else I have come across on the internet. I came across another site that claimed “secret” of PC but the site was very what would be offered beyond what I could learn in any the first chapter of any polymer clay book and the price for the “secrets” was ridiculous. i know you took a lot of time thinking about the best solution for the missed recipes and when offered in a bundle for purchase the price will be well thought out and an excellent value. Keeping my eyes wide open for the next B recipe download.

FYI: Here’s my advice to anyone searching for “The Secret” to discovering your creative voice with polymer clay… learn from someone who is committed to being there for you personally, at every step along the way.
One of the reasons I switched from teaching night school continuing education classes to doing online video tutoring, is because the web allows me to provide the level of support I think everyone deserves.
Even before someone decides to buy anything from me, I’m available to answer “how-to” questions… I provide daily articles, pics, tips… plus weekly color recipes… and even the occasional free video as a special surprise.
Then for those who feel comfortable with my teaching style and decide to buy the Polymer Clay Basics Course, the high level of support doesn’t stop. In any learning process, there are always little things that come up which I’m happy to address.
And perhaps most importantly, I have put together a very affordable, follow-up tutoring plan (the Weekly Library Videos) that allows students to continue building up from the basics to become accomplished polymer clay artists and jewelry designers. This is the Continuing Education part of the program that I was never able to offer in a live class setting.
Based on the positive feedback that keeps rolling in, my version of the “Polymer Clay Secret” seems to be working pretty well. But hold onto your chair… this is only the beginning!
BTW: To everyone who has already decided to become a member at the library, the absolute best thing you could do for me and for everyone else listening, is to share stories about your polymer clay projects. It’s definitely fun to learn all kinds of new and fun techniques. But the real rewards come when you start to make things to gift or sell to others who truly appreciate what you do. There is greatness in all of you!
I am currently participating in the Polymer Clay Central Bug swap. i am not particularly into bugs but I like having a project to work on. I have participated in 3 previous swaps and it is a fun way for me to force my self to try something new!!!
Oh, and AMEN!!! to Cindy’s comment, don’t waste your time looking for better or a more tried and true “secrets” on polymer clay than what she provides here !!
This is a wonderful site and I love being able to read about all the great ideas you have. One thing that I would love to be able to do is get all of the recipes…I would be willing to pay an additional fee to be able to access ALL of the recipes. I download them all as the new ones come up…but would love to have access to all the old ones. The color recipes are one of my VERY favorite parts of this website.
@Anna: Thanks! I think it is great that you are willing to try new things. That is the only way you can truly get good at something. You may go back to what you were doing before but you will look at it through fresh new eyes. This will bring excitement into your work. Have fun with the bug swap. Hope you get some cool bugs back that will inspire you even more!

Sent an inquiry about three weeks ago and have not heard from you which is extremely unusual so presume it got lost in cyberspace (not so unusual).
First, THANK YOU FOR GOING BACK TO EMAIL FOR RECIPES!! Won’t miss anymore. In that vein I was gone when 011-3b and 011-4b were sent out as well as 006-2b which I also missed the first time it was offered, would it be possible to receive them now?
Which Costco do you get the parchment paper from? I have asked for it in a dozen or so Costco stores in California and Oregon without success. I have a friend traveling near your area and they are willing to pick some up for me.
Really impressed with the new designs and techniques and how much more advanced they are. The last 2 videos are great examples. Hope it brings you well deserved recognition within the PC community.

Glad to hear the newsletter format is working better for you now. In regards to sending out missed issues, I’ve had so many requests that I’ve had to stop doing it… at least until I can hire an assistant.
All my energy right now is going into creating the more advanced weekly videos… and hopefully soon I’ll be podcasting as well. Thanks for asking and for the kind words.
Now about the parchment paper… I’m pretty sure any of the stores in the Greater Vancouver area carry it. I’ve picked it up at both the Surrey store as well as in Langley (both suburbs located south of Vancouver).

The fruits of all your efforts are definitely paying huge dividends (wish the banks were doing half as well) for the PC community. Fridays especially have me going to the computer very early with excited anticipation.

Yes you are correct about there being no time limit on being able to retrieve the recipes via email… as long as you save the emails with the links in them.
Glad you are enjoying the Friday video releases. Be sure to tell all of your polymer clay friends about them too. I get many emails from subscribers telling me they wished they would have joined earlier at the $3 per month subscription rate, to avoid having to pay the higher $10 per month rate for access to back videos and recipes they missed out on by waiting.
The Costco stores I was referring to are in Canada. It is very likely that the Canadian Costco’s have access to different parchment paper suppliers than the US stores do.

I went to the website of the Chef Select company that makes the Parchment paper I use, and there is a radio interview with the president of the company.
