1-A: Daffodil
2-A: Jonquil
3-A: Narcissus
4–A: Quietude
Is there a flower that sings more loudly the virtues of Spring, than the lovely Daffodil?
Can’t you just picture a sweet little group of Kindergarten kids dancing around on the stage with their cheery faces peeking out of a Daffodil costume… there’s hardly a happier more spring-like image than that!
It is exactly that kind of bliss I feel, just looking at this photo of a Jonquil Daffodil that our daughter Willow shot last Spring in the gardens of Surrey City Hall. Which reminds me, I will have to take her to that garden again this Spring… especially now that she has her beautiful new professional camera.
This photo was actually taken on the same day and may have even been from the same clump of daffodils that Willow took of the daffodil stems photo I used in the Rain Dance Palette from last month. It always amazes me how just a slightly different angle and a shift in lighting can change the way the colors look in a photo. If you take a look at the Rain Dance Palette, you will see what I mean.
The flower stems in the Rain Dance Palette look to be a much softer green than the darker shade found in the stems of today’s photo. It just goes to show that you could take a hundred different photos of the same clump of flowers and come up with thousands of color combinations inspired by them. Incredible really when you think of it! It also means that I will never run out of color inspiration for future color recipes.
I hope you enjoy the little breath of fresh air provided by this inspiring Spring palette for the Vol-058-A recipe Series.
The following Vol-058 A-series Jonquil Daffodil color palette will be added to the Polymer Clay Members Library at the beginning of March 2013:

… Daffodil is the fresh spring yellow of the petals of this Jonquil variety of Daffodil. Jonquil is the darker amber yellow found in the shaded areas of petals. Narcissus is the soft apricot orange of the cup of the blossom. And Quietude is the soft quiet shade of gray found in the blurred background of this gorgeous flower photograph.
Cindy, you have done an excellent job of planning your tutorials and the color choices you chose for them have worked extremely well. ~DixieAnn-S
I do love the idea of using nature as a palette and creating Skinner blends. My mom always told me that to match colors, “…ask the pansies. If God put it on a flower you can wear it too. ~TK
I stumbled across your web site by doing a google search on how to mix polymer clay colors. Your site is so informative and user friendly. Thanks!!! ~Pamela-C

Beautiful colors!!
I Love Daffodils! Every March the American Cancer Society sells bunches of daffodils all over the US to raise money to fight Cancer. They use the daffodil because it is a sign of renewal and hope after a long and cold winter. Thanks so much Cindy for this beautiful color combo. It would be absolutely terrific if you had a Daffodil flower tutorial too!
Hint, hint.
I went out shopping yesterday, ( first time in ages). Couldn’t resist buying four bunches of daffodils. two for me and two for my lovely neighbor who has been doing my shopping for me.
The buds opened fully tonight and gave off a beautiful perfume. Not sure what variety they are they, have big frilly trumpets and I have them in my late Mothers old dark green pottery jug. If that old jug could talk what a tale it would tell of the many friends and relations who filled it with all types of flowers over the years. My dear Mother lived to the age of 92 so you can imagine all the birthdays, Easters, Christmases, Mothering Sundays and other occasions that it was filled with flowers for every season. Even in the depth of winter there was always something
in that old jug even if it was just bare branches
My Mother traveled to many different countries and created beautiful gardens wherever she put down roots. If she wasn’t planting them she was painting them.
Silk Daffodil button pins are sold here in the UK in aid of Cancer research by the Marie Curie Society and to see the green spears forcing their way through the frosty earth always amazes me.So a big thanks CINDY the colors chosen and names, ( was Marcsissus a typo?) agree with my friend Dixie a Daff Tute would be great………..cheers………. xx……………………….
What a lovely story Elaine! I can just picture that jug being filled with flowers, season after season. Nothing brightens the mood, quite as wonderfully as a vase filled with flowers!
Yes that Marcsissus was a typo. (Struck me funny saying that out loud!) Doug has it fixed now. :)
Elaine, so nice to hear you are out and about doing some shopping and enjoying the fresh daffys. Our office was filled with them every March and the scent was so aromatic. God bless Doll.
