DupliColor Pigment Duplication Polymer Clay Medium

Introducing Duplicolor - Polymer Clay TutorVideo #644: Be sure to watch to the very end of today’s video… because there is a special gift waiting for you there.

Topics Covered In This Video:

  • Today in the PcT Test Lab we are testing a brand new product to the market called DupliColor… a user friendly pigment duplication medium for polymer clay.
  • I am really excited because I think it’s going to revolutionize the way we do color mixing with polymer clay.
  • Now before I go too much further, make sure to watch to the end of the video, because I have a special gift for you at the very end.
  • What I think is so exciting about this product is that it is so simple to use.
  • Now it is a medium that you can add to any light colored polymer clay (it doesn’t matter the brand), but you need to use a color that has no color in it.
  • I’m going to be using Premo White Translucent, but you could also use White or Pearl or something like that.
  • You will also need the medium and a highly pigmented printed material such as a photo (matt finish), magazine clipping, a flyer or even a newspaper picture.
  • Then what this product does, is duplicate that color and saturate your polymer clay with it, which makes it really easy for creating any color you desire.
  • I show you an example of one of the test mixes I did using a richly colored magazine clipping.
  • This product is perfect for those that struggle with color mixing… because basically it is a total no-brainer.
  • I then demo how to use the DupliColor… and the special gift I have for you.

Oh, you got me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was ready to order it, and was thinking of all kinds of ways to use it. You are so good at faking it, the video really seemed real. A gift indeed. Ha ha. Thanks for the laugh.

BTW, yes, there is something I would like to see more of, and that is complex canes.

I think you’ve said elsewhere that complex canes are more advanced, but that is just my point…. I like to stretch myself beyond my skill level. I actually own a tutorial to make a 6 pound butterfly cane – yes 6 POUNDS – and believe me, i am nowhere near ready to tackle that, (nor do I think I will ever want to make a cane that big. I didn’t even know people did that!).

But I have so much to learn about choosing colors for complex canes, that is probably where I need the most help. And mixing patterns. And and and…..

Anyway, that’s my two cents worth, and it’s no April Fool’s joke!

Thanks for the laugh and all the good you do!

    Fran

  2. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

LOL, all I have to do is pretend the product is real, and then there is no need to act. :)

  3. Anna Sabina, 01 April, 2015

This is going to revolutionize polymer clay !!! I have been waiting for ths video all year.
    Anna

  4. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

:) Glad you enjoyed it Anna… we do this mostly for you!

  5. Freda K, 01 April, 2015

When I turned the calendar over this morning, I thought it was a shame it was Wednesday and Cindy couldn’t play an April Fools joke on us. But when I sat down at the computer I thought to go to the blog thinking maybe she just had some words about the day.

Yep. You didn’t disappoint. Very clever idea and so well executed.

  6. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Thank you Freda! Glad you liked it!

  7. Peg Carter, 01 April, 2015

I was crossing my fingers, but I knew what day it was. Good one, Cindy.

  8. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Yeah, too bad its not real Eh?

  9. Jocelyn C, 01 April, 2015

Too funny. Even though I suspected a scam in the works, I still watched the complete video. LOL, you and Doug are getting good at this April Fools Day stuff.

  10. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Thank you, thank you. Its getting fun to do! Doug has already started brewing ideas for next year!

  11. Naomi D, 01 April, 2015

    Baaaaaaaad Cindy! LOL!!!!

  12. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

    No Naomi… Goooood Cindy! :)

  13. Dawn B, 01 April, 2015

Very well done! Got me too. Except that I kept thinking “that looks like an UltraDome bottle.” Happy April everyone!

  14. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Good eye Dawn! I was going to put oil in the bottle but didn’t want to foul it up for putting Ultradome in it later, so opted for Rubbing Alcohol instead. (Water took too long to dry and I didn’t want to mix the water into the clay.)

  15. Veronica F, 01 April, 2015

Well! You got me a beauty! I was already trying to work out where I would get this wonderful product from. Being in Australia, a lot of the goodies you show we cannot get here, or have trouble getting here. And being a liquid, I thought “blast, they won’t ship that from Canada”.
Well done my girl!……mind you, am very disappointed that this product doesn’t exist!
    Cheers
    Veronica

  16. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Well Veronica, you should know that this product ships no problem from Canada to Australia on Fantasy Air. So I’ll pretend to send you some if you’d like a case or two. :)

  17. elaine faulks, 02 April, 2015

You know they say that what can be imagined will become real.

So who knows Cindy, someone somewhere might be in their test lab at this very moment beavering away at perfecting this technique. Thanks for a good laugh and fun April 1st…..cheers…xx

  18. Cindy Lietz, 02 April, 2015

Yes, I imagine there could be someone right now, trying to figure this formula out. From the looks of things, it would be an instant success! :)

  19. Jay Williams, 03 April, 2015

Boy, Cindy, you really got me BIGTIME. I am color challenged and got really excited. I actually said, “Finally!”. I was ready to go out to the used book store and buy them out of magazines.
Thanks for a good laugh. Now I will always be suspicious when watching the your tutorials. Just waiting for you to say “Gotcha”.

  20. Rebecca Doremus, 03 April, 2015

I never get to even think about looking at the wonderful things you email me until the weekend. Today I had a few minutes while watching my computers do other things and thought I would check this video out (note: it is Friday and this is just part of my regular weekly newsletter.)

While I was watching the video I was trying to locate where I could find it. :-(

What a bummer. Probably would have found it funnier on Wednesday 4-1. Still funny, but depressing at the same time. LOL

  21. Gayle Thompson, 03 April, 2015

You got me!!! I was so concerned about how this product affected the clay for strength, baking temp, etc! Whew! Now I don’t have to think!

    Good one, Cindy!

  22. Sharon H, 03 April, 2015

Oh that’s a good one Cindy! I laughed until my sides hurt… having just spent an hour or so duplicating the colour of some wool I have for a sweater… I could have used that “magic stuff”!

  23. Cassandra W, 03 April, 2015

The minute I saw that it was posted April 1st, I knew it was a joke, because I know that much about you Cindy. But it was a good try.

  24. Linda Monte, 03 April, 2015

I am a newbee and I dont find it very funny. I am confused enough without your April fools job,

  25. Dixie Ann, 03 April, 2015

Linda Monte, we are so happy to have you part of our clay group and I feel so bad Cindys joke upset you. I know how confusing things are when you first start out in this medium. Even us experienced clayers still are confused over some things so please don’t feel alone. We are all here to help each other. Once you have known Cindy you will find her to be warm, friendly, helpful and offers so much to help you grow with your claying experience. She does have that wonderful sense of humor and I guess most of us who have been here for awhile know about her April Fools jokes. Even I was writing down all this information in hopes of jumping in my car and rushing off to puchase this product and I’m as old as dirt. :) God bless and have a Happy Easter!

  26. Angela A, 03 April, 2015

You totally fooled me!! I had so many ideas going thru my head that I almost skipped to the end to find out where to get it. Guess I already have it :)

  27. Kitty M, 03 April, 2015

shuda known when I didn’t see a manufacturers label on the bottle, GOOD ONE!!! ya had me !!

  28. Dianne H, 04 April, 2015

Hi Cindy, just looking at your video for Duplicolour and when you came to the end I just died laughing!!! You certainly fooled me – April Fool I was!! Then I looked at Cindy L. no longer doing PCT and …. I started to guess half way through that you were indeed joking! Ha Ha ! Anyway I really enjoy your colour-mixing cards and your helpful hints. Happy Easter to you and Doug. Regards Di H. Melbourne Australia

  29. Maisie June, 04 April, 2015

Wow, Cindy, The best April fools joke in years. There was I in Oz. Getting so excited and thinking my polymer friends will drool over this. Nearly emailed a friend who has gone to Sydney to do a polymer workshop this Easter. Well done both of you. I’m sure all of us will now be waiting for you to ‘discover’ the real thing somewhere down the track. :-)

  30. Deana M, 04 April, 2015

I didn’t watch it until today, so I fell for it…hook, line and sinker! I would like to know what color/brand that last clay was though. The green/gold one. :)

  31. Cindy Lietz, 06 April, 2015

Hi Deane, I just mixed that up with a little Premo Wasbi, 18K Gold and some Translucent…. there also may have been a pinch or two of some other colors just to tweak it a bit.

  32. Karen S, 05 April, 2015

You got me but good. Got a good chuckle out of this. How I wish that someone would invent such a product!

  33. Linda H, 05 April, 2015

Well, you had me reeled in hook, line and sinker!!!!!

But, now I know how to do that and it’s sooooo reasonably priced.

  34. Cindy Lietz, 06 April, 2015

Unfortunately rubbing alcohol doesn’t work either Linda… I just used it because it evaporates quickly. Hope it was fun for you! ;)

  35. Amanda F, 10 April, 2015

Cindy I am so addicted to your YouTube channel. I’m still very new so your videos are so helpful. I have to say that I am disapointed the pigment duplicator is not a real thing! How awesome it would be if it was :)

  36. Cheyrl B, 10 April, 2015

I fell all he way to the floor, what a great product it would be if real. I was already planning to do a search to find this amazing product. I do though love the nozzle on the bottle. Where might that be found?

  37. Cindy Lietz, 18 April, 2015

Hi Cheyrl that bottle is for dispensing resin. I got it from Terry Morris at EpoxyJewelry.

  38. Asya G, 10 April, 2015

You are great with the duplicolor
It was so natural and nice

  39. Jocelyn C, 12 April, 2015

Asya, honey, it was a joke for April’s Fool Day, the 1st. There is no such product…..yet. But if I had scientific leanings, would sure try to come up with it. LOL!

  40. Michele Dickey, 10 April, 2015

Nooooo!! I am watching this on the 10th so I absolutely had NO IDEA!!! Waaaaay! I was realllllly looking forward to this! You really got me!

  41. Marijke O, 19 April, 2015

you got me, I had it written down to order……………… and considering that I looked at this later in the month, I was not warned about the April fool, well-done, love your videos

  42. Laurie W, 23 April, 2015

ouch. I was so excited about this product! My mind was reeling the entire time. No more wasted outdated magazines! Go green and save on colors…on and on my mind was thinking, imagining…I almost didn’t finish the video so I could just go to the website and order, but then i thought…what if Cindy was going to give all her faithful members a free trial offer! So i stayed and watched. Oh can you feel the sinking of my heart?
