Wire Wrapped Polymer Clay Jewelry Pendant, A Gift for Me This Year

Getting this close to Christmas I am not able to write very long posts… still have some more polymer clay jewelry pieces to finish up. But I wanted to show you something I made that I'll be keeping for myself as a present… to wear this holiday season.
This simple, clunky and funky looking necklace was made using quite a few of the techniques that I have shown you throughout the year.
The focal bead is a Swirly Lentil Bead I made using some scraps from the Holly and Berry Canes. It has a bit of a unique shape to the lentil, that you may not have seen before. After rolling the lentil the normal way, I gently reshaped the bead into more of a teardrop form. Then instead of piercing the bead from top to bottom, I chose to pierce it through the sides at the top where the bead narrows.
Using the messy wrapped style, I wired the top of the lentil bead and gave it a wide almost square loop at the top for the bail.
The focal pendant was then strung onto a faux suede cord on which I added some handmade wire cord ends and a hook.
I love this necklace. How smooth and polished the bead feels, and just the overall look of it. It goes beautifully with a pair of nice jeans and a crisp blouse. Just my kind of polymer clay jewelry!

Just another thing for me to try, If only we could make clay hours to do it all in I would make a years supply lol, I have never spent so much time on the computer until I became a member of yours its just great. That is a beautiful necklace!! I would wear it proudly myself with the modern women's uniform of jeans and a crisp blouse. I did not get a chance to make the holly and berry canes but I love the versatility of all the projects that you have shown us throughout the year. It is one of the things on my to do list for next year..so much clay so little time..and retirement still so far away..a girl can dream can't she. Thanks for all you do for us and Happy Holidays.

I love it Cindy. And I want you to know I did make a lentil bead 4 inches in diameter for myself as a Christmas goody. It was hard. But I kept watching your video and perservered. It spiraled too. LOL! Merry Christmas!

Ahahaha. Nope, no pics. Six inches next. Hands really hurt so it's hard, but satisfying. The lentils aren't "show ready" just big. Awesome to me! Thanks for that excellent video, it made it possible.
Also, on a fitness program after those lentils. Noticed I jiggled ALL OVER trying to get that repeat spiral motion down. Need more spandex, lol.

That's cute Jocelyn! Started going back to the YMCA for the exact same reason! LOL Alright, if you're too shy to show your huge lentils, that's OK. I can imagine them in my mind's eye. Are you still thinking of making one into a hat? That was such an interesting idea. Have been dying to know if it works. How's the hands btw? Are they still causing you pain or are they improving a bit? I'd love to hear how you're doing.

Y is a great spot, so many different things available, especially on that family plan. We lived there, did everything from swimming to life guard certifications, gymnastics, dance, sports, summer camps, boating and navigation. Meet great people there too.
Now, the hat must wait, I am lentilled out, just too cold here to justify electric heating the whole room for warm hands and clay. But if I can get that basic shape big enough, I am going for platter size eventually.
Hands kill, as do the joints, so spend more time looking at and reading about clay right now, lol. Glad I found a fabulous place to do it here.
Only thing that works is heavy duty heat cream rubbed then covered with the tight latex gloves. Warms up the hands to playing the with the pasta machine stage.
Think I am going to have to set up a bed project box, so as I get stuff to a certain stage, I can move it to where the heating pads are situated, then continue to work.
Lord, I pray I will not die in my sleep so that this addiction will not have to be explained to total strangers….

Hi Jocelyn – It sounds like you are going through a bit of a rough spell. I'll say a prayer for you as well. I'm not sure how much you have been keeping up with the blogs lately but there has been a fair amount of discussion about health and wellness. "Art Therapy" is a good keyword to use in the search box at the top of the page to find articles that may provide you with inspiration. You are a trooper Jocelyn. Keep that head of yours focused on the positive things in your life. Happy New Year to you!
