Most of them are cracking and I cannot figure out why.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/sculpey-ultra-light-oven-bake-clay-lightweight-polymer-clay-beads\/4826\/\">Ultra Light Sculpey<\/a> (ULS) for the cores of my beads because I don&#8217;t have enough scrap clay, AND because I want the heart pendants to be very light weight.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I used Sculpey III to make the cane so that it would bake at the same time and temperature as the ULS. I love the way they come out, but I can&#8217;t figure out why they keep cracking during baking.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I watch the temp through the whole baking process. Does anyone have any ideas about what I&#8217;m doing wrong?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I spend so much time shaping each heart individually and I just want to cry when I take them out of the toaster oven and find them all cracked.\u00a0 I have made \/ baked about 45 of them so far and I have only had about 10 of them come out without cracks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I am a potter and I know how to figure out what went wrong when I end up with cracks or warping or other issues with ceramic clay. But I am relatively new to\u00a0 polymer clay and I don&#8217;t know how to trouble shoot these things so I don&#8217;t keep making the same mistakes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I have another batch of hearts ready to bake but now I will just put them away until you do the article. It is really disheartening to pour so much time and love and effort into something that comes out cracked.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I loved Sue F&#8217;s idea in a previous Spotlight article of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/kato-clay-cracked-bead-problem\/9128\/#comment-32695\">re-purposing the cracks<\/a>. I think I am going to try something like that on one of mine to see how it comes out.
