For example, instead of using my Shape Makers<\/span><!--more--><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> Leaf Cutters (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/studio-by-sculpey-polymer-clay-tools\/4410\/\">Studio by Sculpey tools<\/a>) for making leaves, I decided instead to use them for creating a beautiful Butterfly Wing pendant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">For this butterfly jewelry pendant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/studio-sculpey-polymer-clay-vs-premo-sculpey\/4646\/\">Studio by Sculpey Clay<\/a> was mixed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/translucent-sculpey-clay-fimo-clay-premo-cernit-kato-comparison\/420\/\">Premo Translucent<\/a> to give the wing both the flexibility of the Studio and the transparency of the Premo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/tear-drop-method-polymer-clay-skinner-blend\/2613\/\">teardrop blend<\/a> of yellows and blues was created and then layered into a short wide cane similar to the one used to make the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/polymer-clay-tutorial-rose-bead-sculpted-flower-beads\/4473\/\">sculpted flower beads<\/a> in Vol-013.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/images\/blog\/2009-07\/27-studio-sculpey-leaf-shape-cutter.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Studio By Sculpey Leaf Shape Cutters\" vspace=\"0\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" align=\"right\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This &#8216;cane&#8217; was then flattened with an acrylic roller, to about 1\/4&#8243; in thickness, and slightly larger than the Gingko Leaf cutter from the Studio by Sculpey Shape Makers set in this photo to the right &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A simple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/bullseye-cane-making-tip-polymer-clay-beginners\/44\/\">bulls eye cane<\/a> of pink and blue Studio clay was then created; Cut into thin slices; Layered onto the cane slab and rolled into the surface. These bullseye cane slices become the spots on the butterfly wings, so a little thought should go into their placement and arrangement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The texture plate that came with the leaf cutter was used to press veins into the wings&#8217; surfaces, after which the cutter was used to cut out the wing shape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/baking-beads-on-cornstarch\/87\/\">Baking on a bed of cornstarch<\/a> allowed the piece to end up with a gentle, natural looking curve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After baking, a grommet was added, as well as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beadsandbeading.com\/blog\/stamped-jewelry-beads-antique-finish-polymer-clay-instructions\/832\/\">antique finish<\/a> to bring out the depth of the veining.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I have received several compliments when wearing this piece. It&#8217;s large enough to get noticed, unique enough to get asked about and simple enough to wear often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I really liked making it and am debating whether or not to film a follow up video tutorial.
