So what the heck does floor polish have to do with beads anyway? A lot actually! Those of you who have been around polymer clay for awhile, will likely already<\/span> know most of this. But beginners to polymer clay may be surprised to learn that Future Floor Wax is an economical way to add a shiny finish coating to all sorts of bead surfaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether you call it Future Polish, Finish, Wax or even Future Floor Shine, here\u00a0 are 7 Facts to pass along at your next Guild meeting or bead party:<\/span><\/p>\n

1) <\/strong><\/span><\/span>Future Floor Finish is an acrylic floor polish, often found in grocery stores. It is also available at<\/span> Amazon<\/a>\"\". Since it is manufactured for use on large surface areas (floors), it comes in a bottle size that will last most bead makers for a lifetime (or 2).<\/span><\/p>\n

2)<\/strong><\/span> Future was bought out by SC Johnson and is now called Pledge with Future Shine<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

3)<\/strong><\/span> Even with the name change it is still the same formula.<\/span><\/p>\n

4)<\/strong><\/span> The same product in the UK is called Johnson’s Klear<\/a> and it can be purchased at Sainsbury stores. Thanks To Silverleaf for this tip.

6)<\/strong><\/span> After allowing the Future or Johnson’s Klear to dry. you can cure harden the coating by popping your beads into the oven at 265F for 15 minutes. Make sure they are dry though. Otherwise you may get bubbles forming.<\/span><\/p>\n

7)<\/strong><\/span> Future offers very durable protection for covering more vulnerable surface treatments such as polymer clay image transfers<\/a>, Pearl Ex powdered pigments<\/a>, and gold leaf<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now with all of the “low maintenance” flooring that is being installed in kitchens today, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find Future Floor Finish at local grocery stores.<\/span><\/p>\n
