They Look Real Rocks But Are Actually Handmade Using Polymer Clay:

My 10 year old son (Fisher) has been invited to two of his friend’s birthday parties this month. And since he will most likely be changing schools next<\/span> year, I thought it would be nice if he could give them something special to remember him by. Something more personal than the typical video game or electronic types of gifts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Racking my brain trying to figure out what could work, I looked to my polymer clay for inspiration. The faux pebble beads<\/a> from last weeks library tutorial were still fresh on my mind. Plus I had some alphabet rubber stamps close by, that seemed to be begging for attention.<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea began to gel. What if I used the stamps to press words into the polymer clay faux stones. You know, like those polished rocks in the gift shops with words like ‘Hope’ and ‘Dream” and other inspirational words.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, as if they had a mind of their own, the ideas ran from words, to names, to a play on words.<\/span><\/p>\n

Boys are always saying, ‘This rocks’, ‘That rocks’, ‘I rock’. So why not confirm it with some personalized dog tags jewelry. ‘Alex Rocks’ and ‘Seth Rocks’. Make them out of faux rock and shape them into something a 10 year old boy would think is cool.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can see all kinds of potential for an idea like this. It wouldn’t have to be just for boys either. All those Zen words like, Peace, Love and Harmony could be etched into stone. Birth dates are another idea.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what do you think? Does this idea rock or what!? I hope Fisher’s friends thinks it’s as cool as I do. That will be the true test.
