A Handmade Birthday Gift Idea For Your Dad:

The other day you may have seen the faux turquoise polymer clay clock I blogged about. It was a birthday gift for my father in law. In that post was a reference to another gift clock, this time<\/span> for my own Dad’s birthday. Today’s photo shows that second creation. And as you can see, it has a fish theme.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fish clock was inspired by a few things. First of all, my father is a commercial fisherman who has just retired. Over the years I have made all sorts of fish related things for him.<\/span><\/p>\n

He’s always enjoyed receiving my “rock fish” creations — <\/span>polymer clay covered rocks<\/span> in various shapes and forms. But I had yet to make him a clock.<\/span><\/p>\n

With all the experimenting I’ve been doing lately, using my Faux Raku polymer clay techniques<\/a>, this project allowed me to try out a few new things.<\/span><\/p>\n

I would also like to give an inspirational shout out to polymer clay artist Gera Scott Chandler. I’ve admired her brightly colored crackled finish artwork for awhile now. It was a serendipitous discovery of her square fish clock<\/a> on Flickr that moved me to make my own fishy time piece.<\/span><\/p>\n

I would never feel right copying someone’s work exactly. So I came up with my own version of a polymer clay fish clock as you can see in the photo above. That being said, I would still like to say thanks to you Gera, for doing what you do. I’m sure your creative pieces have had a positive influence on more than just myself.
