How polymer clay crafts can satisfy the inner nerd in all of us!

Is uber geekster Bill Gates to blame for the explosion of interest in geeky polymer clay crafts? Whether he is or not doesn’t really matter because this popular geek girl / boy trend is here to stay. Crafters, jewelry designers and NERDS far and wide are celebrating tech fashion like never before.

This may not be the first place you’ve heard about geek crafts and it definitely won’t be the last. I absolutely love how this nerdy design trend is affecting the polymer clay jewelry making market… especially with creative influences from some of the old school retro video games such as Nintendo, Atari, Mario Bros. and Pac Man

For those of us over 40, this vintage gamer craze reminds us of simpler times – when sitting in front of a computer screen all day was actually fun! Back then, shutting down video games was as easy as flicking an on-off switch.

For those under 40, it is that mystery of what it must have been like ‘when it all began’ and how dorky and cute the old-school games look compared to the high technology of today.

What I’m finding most fun about this techno trend is how geekgirls are now expressing their inner gamer attitude with one of a kind tech fashion jewelry. They are showing off favorite electronic gadgets in polymer clay earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, rings and i-pod accessories. Even cell phones dangle with little miniature Atari consoles and Nintendo Wii nun chucks!

And nerdy girls aren’t the only ones loving this techie trend. Geek gifts for guys is another hot seller with Donkey Kong pendants, cellphone charms and recycled circuit board dog tags hanging around their necks.

Other polymer clay artists besides me are also reporting on this cool geek art and jewelry making trend:

Polymer Clay Daily recently wrote a post about Gamer Girls.

Geekcrafts.com has a whole section of geek fashion jewelry and accessories created in polymer clay.

Flickr has group photo pools called Geek Craft, geek chick and Freak&Geek with several photos of nerdy handicrafts, many of which are made with polymer clay.

And if you still need more convincing that cool geek jewelry beads and canes are hot, then do some Etsy Seller Market Research using "geek" as the keyword.
