The waves crashing on the shoreline. The moody gray of the sea as it tumbles the stones along the water&#8217;s edge. The filtered light, as it tries to break through the morning fog.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Growing up on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada, I have spent many hours walking the shores of our local beaches. I haven&#8217;t been down to the beach as much as I should lately. Just haven&#8217;t found the time. But felt that familiar <em>pull<\/em> of the sea, when I saw this photo that Doug took of the pebbles on Crescent Beach (about 15 min from where I live). I just knew I had to honor that feeling and create a color palette for you guys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The following individual recipes will be added to the Polymer Clay Members Library during the month of Oct-2010 in Vol-029 [A-Series]:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Pebble Gray <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Recipe 029-1A)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Seaside <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Recipe 029-2A)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Beach Granite <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Recipe 029-3A)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong>Black Sea<\/strong><strong><em><em> <\/em><\/em><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><strong> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(Recipe 029-4A)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>Pebble Gray<\/em> is the soft pale gray seen in the lighter toned stones on the beach. <em>Seaside<\/em> is the smoky Gray Blue found in the rocks as well as the Sea and Sky. <em>Beach Granite<\/em> is the dark Brownish Gray found in the granite boulders along the shore. And <em>Black Sea<\/em> is the inky Black of the darkest pebbles and the color of the brooding Sea, as it churns and swells in the Autumn storms.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">I have often looked at the &#8220;natural palette&#8221; of the Rocky Mountains where I live &#8211; azure sky, forest greens and deep clay reds &#8211; and thought that the combination was inspiring&#8230; but I didn&#8217;t let it inspire ME to actually reflect these hues in a piece of art. I am very new to polymer clay, but mixing colors and learning to select meaningful palettes for my bead projects are first and second on my list. I hope to keep an open mind to unexpected color combinations, but also to look to nature for some &#8220;tried and true&#8221; ideas.
