4: Spotted Lily Cane:
With another month gone by, the Volume-028 Back Issue Videos have now been added to the Polymer Clay Library. If you missed your chance to see these tutes as they were released each Friday during the month of September, now is your chance to add them to your collection as a convenient bundled package.
Today’s photo shows thumbnail images for the 4 videos included in this Vol-028 Package:
Video-028-1 Polymer Clay Art Sheets: Sometimes you just need to do your own thing… especially if you’re an artist. This cool polymer clay technique allows you to express yourself in so many different ways. And you will get amazing results every time! Similar to a graffiti painted wall, a collage canvas or a hand painted art cloth, this technique combines all your favorite mediums, tools and design ideas together, into one unique concept. Because of it’s versatility, you will be able to use the resulting Polymer Clay Art Sheet in so many of your bead making projects.
Video-028-2 Polymer Clay Bead Caps: When you learn how to make polymer clay beads, it naturally leads you to making jewelry. And when you’re making jewelry, you need findings which often include bead caps. So when several of you recently asked if I would do a tutorial on how to make bead caps out of polymer clay… I said, “Of course!”
Video-028-3 Tube Beads and Roller: Tube beads are a very useful bead shape that can be pretty much made in every polymer clay technique… including Faux Raku, Mokume Gane, Zebra Canes, Kaleidoscope canes and even my newest technique, Polymer Clay Art Sheets. In the past I’ve always used a flat piece of acrylic to make them. But it’s always been a bit tricky to get sets of beads to all end up consistently even and the same size. Not any more though… not since I discovered the Amaco Tube Bead Roller! You would think that a tool as simple as this would be self explanatory. However, there are several little tricks that will make it way easier for you to use.
Video-028-4 Spotted Lily Petal Cane: Oh my gosh, you guys are going to love this Spotted Lily Petal Cane! It is so simple to make, but you can do so many cool things with it! Not only can you use the single petals as charms and beads, but you can also use them to build more complicated canes or even sculpted flowers such as Tiger Lilies, Jack-in-the-Pulpits, Sunflowers and Black-Eyed-Susan’s. There is a lot more creative potential with this cane than what you may realize, and you will be amazed just how simple it is to make!
Also included in this Volume-028 back issue package are the A-Series recipe cards from the Autumn Sunflower Color Palette.

I’m just blown away by the ever increasing library of pc information and skills you have provided for us. Sometimes I wonder if I hadn’t found this site if I would even be working with pc at all, as I didn’t feel I was improving much and didn’t really know where to go beyond the books I own. Then you add to that this supportive community always ready to help and encourage-what more can a girl want?
Ewww, sappy this morning, huh? This site means a lot to me-just wanted to say thanks. Have a great day, everyone.
September was a great month for tutorials and everyones projects were fantastic. Thanks Cindy and Doug for giving us this opportunity. This is the best PC site.
I agree with you. I know I wouldn’t be enjoying claying around without the techniques Cindy gives us and the wonderful video work by Doug. I also love the written word but learn so much better and faster with a visual. A million thanks go to you, Cindy and Doug, I don’t think I’ve said that lately.
September was a great month, following along with so many previous ones. Of course I have my favorites but that list is getting longer all the time.
Gotta go and clay around….
Can someone direct me to the recipes for the b series colords Cindy puts out ead week? I can not seem to find them and apparently need a little help. I would like to print them along with the picture pallettes and the color mixing recipes. Anyone have any suggestions?
@ littlereed: Go to the top-right of this screen and click where it says, Click Here. Sign up for Cindy’s weekly Newsletter…that’s the only place that the B-Series recipes are found. You won’t be able to access the B-Series recipes that have already been published in prior newsletters…so get signed up asap so you don’t miss any more.
Cindy has said that she will work on another way for people to get the B-Series, but I don’t know where that is on her to-do list.
Thanks Linda K……I figured I missed the boat on writing down all of the B series recipes. I thought I had printed and saved them all and I accidentally shredded them on my big office clean! Bonehead move on my part…should have made a second copy. Hopefully they will keep it on the to do list ;). I really wanted the poppy colors. I am just now getting all of the colors mixed and making the color chips for my binder. Thanks again for the response.
What a fantastic month of tutorials! Some really great ones here…including those beautiful Art Sheets…YAY!!! Thanks so much to Cindy (and Doug) for all the wonderful things they do! They give us top-notch–amazing!–videos, polymer clay tips, gorgeous color palettes & recipes, ideas & inspiration — not to mention providing a friendly place for us to swap project ideas and help each other with problems (even “where to shop” information!) What a great community the Lietz’s have built. Thanks again you two; September was lovely! ~Kat
I feel bad that people are losing their B-series recipes — sorry! I guess their original newsletters were deleted…perhaps to make room in their email accounts. That got me thinking. I keep all of my newsletters in a folder in my “freebie” email account. I feel like they’re safe sitting out there in cyberspace…
I thought I’d mention this…that it might be helpful to someone. You can get a free email account (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) & then use it for things like newsletters. They often arrive on designated days — so you know when to check your email account (& can ignore it the rest of the time if you like.) You could sort your emails, keeping Cindy’s newsletters in a dedicated folder. There’s plenty of storage in those accounts these days, so you wouldn’t ever have to clean it out. Then if anything happens to a recipe, you can always print another one, save it to a new computer, etc….
@Phaedrakat: do not feel bad! Good advise really…I actually had saved my newsletters but thought I was being a dork and doing something wrong when I could not open them…those darn thieves, they make it tough for everyone! Craft thieves none-the-less! They need to get a life!
I agree that Cindy and Doug do enough already! I would pay for the B series palettes if that could ever be an option! They are worth their weight in gold and maybe it would be easier on Cindy and Doug. I actually feel like you two do not charge enough. You offer an excellent tutorial package that is not matched anywhere else on the Internet! Seriously… you guys are awesome! Please do whatever it takes to make your life easier so you do not get burned out… maybe a separate B series color package that we could purchase would be an option. Just an idea. I will shut up now. ;)
@Laura reed:
You may have something there Laura, they could make the B-series a separate situation somehow. If indeed the reason the B-series is not treated the same as the A-series is because it is too much extra work, . . . then perhaps members should pay extra or something. It would be a comfort to know we can retrieve any of the palettes when we need to.
DMc
@Laura reed:
I felt the same way..so I kept on trying…thought it was me…I had to say it but missery loves company..I felt better when I found out I was in a good group of others who were having the same problem…now I know to down load right away..( did not do it because I had been sick) now I have no excuse…. looking forward to the recyling of the B recipes. Boy can thieves be so stupid to do that when the B series was FREE!!
Hi All,
Thanks everyone for posting some kind words about the Vol-028 back issue package. I’m glad you guys enjoyed those 4 tutes.
Now I’d like to provide a couple of quick technical updates…
It’s been one of “those days” for Doug and I. The guys who manage our web server for the beadvideos library site, decided to do some behind the scenes upgrades which caused a temporary issue with the log-in process for some of you. And wouldn’t you know it, they picked Friday of all days to do this.
But all is fixed now. I think we managed to finally respond to everyone who emailed us today with concerns. Hopefully this comment reaches a few more of you who may be wondering.
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT B-SERIES COLOR RECIPES
The other thing I should clarify is in regards to the B-series color recipes. If you are attempting to access them from the links in older newsletter issues that you have saved in a folder on your computer, this will be a problem.
Recently, the links for all of the previously released B-Series color recipes were changed, because we just recently discovered that another web site was providing access to our B-series color recipes without authorization. Needless to say, it was very disappointing to find out about this… and changing the links for the past B-Series color recipes was something that had to be done to make life more difficult for these internet thieves.
Unfortunately, the recent moving of the B-series color recipes will create a problem for anyone who has just been saving the newsletter emails, rather than going to the extra step of downloading the actual color recipes to your hard drive.
From the start, each week I have always provided the “Download Instructions” as a reminder. You will see these instructions right beside all of the recipe cards when you click through to them from the links in the Friday newsletters.
So in order to collect the B-series recipes, you will need to remember to download them right away, as soon as you receive the Friday emails.
And in case you don’t know… the B-series recipe cards do cycle through the newsletter twice. This means you will get a second chance to download ones you may have missed, on the second go ’round.
Also, as I have mentioned several times in the past, I’ll be coming up with additional ways make the B-series color recipes available… just as soon as I get some more time to figure something out.
Have a great weekend everyone!
~Cindy
@Cindy Lietz from More Discussion About B-series Color Recipes:
Cindy, can’t the thieves also steal the A-series as well? Is there a chance the A-series we have saved just the newsletter and not downloaded them, will be removed as well?
Did these thieves sneak in as members, is that how the B-series was taken? Also, why do you think they only went for the B-series and not the A-series as well?
DMc
@DMC: To steal the A-series recipes, thieves would have to “hack” into the library system, but I’m sure they have better things to do with their time (knock on wood). The A-series recipes are kind of “locked up” behind closed doors, and can only be accessed with a username and password.
But because I give away the B-Series to both paid members as well as non-members (they are a perk of remaining subscribed to my weekly Email Newsletters), the B-series recipe web pages are freely available to anyone that knows the URL for them. In other words, no hacking required. Hopefully I explained that in a way that makes sense.
Hmmm, is there any way to remove my idiotic comment above Cindy’s? Don’t I feel like a prize dummy! No wonder there’s been so many comments about B-series lately. I’ve always been good about downloading mine right away — until I had internet problems, that is. That was followed by having my laptop out for repair–over a month. I got way, way behind on everything computer-related.
Luckily, I began to save my recipes again, but not all of them. I ended up losing 2 entire palettes — but I’m guessing it’s worse for some of you. Those internet thieves are despicable! They hurt a lot of people here. Anyway, I just wanted to say “I’m sorry” for my comment above…horribly bad advice! Also, I understand even better now that I’m missing recipes, too! ~Kat :(
@Phaedrakat: Joyce is right… you don’t need to feel badly. Actually, the information in your previous comment about saving copies of the newsletters is still good advice. Even though the links to the B-series color recipes will have to be changed from time to time, the newsletter still contains all of the palette photos as well as direct permalinks to the member videos and A-series color recipes.
BTW, if anyone is reading this and is wondering why they are not receiving the color photos in their Friday Newsletter emails, it is because you need to set up your email program to receive “HTML” messages. That setting will allow the pictures to make it through to your inbox.
Kat, please stop feeling so badly. Experience seems to be the best teacher and we all know that what works for some doesn’t always work for all. So its up to us as individuals to try a suggestion or not. My computer and I are friends some of the time and lately it seems to take charge more and more so I have to really be alert before I push buttons. Sorry to hear you have also lost some of the recipes and that you were without your computer for so long, a month, yikes, that must have caused withdrawels. I visited Facebook recently (awesome artwork!) and want to thank you for all your work there, listing all those URLs, you’re true blue. Happy claying…
Okay, I see now.
Question: Is it possible to put the B-series in “lock-up” as you have done with the A-series, . . . so members can retrieve the B-palettes if they miss them for some reason?
Perhaps it is a great deal of extra time for you to do this, we all know your plate is very full right now.
Thanks as always,
DMc
Thanks guys! I just felt silly writing that comment — ignorant of what happened. Then again, who would think that fellow clayers would steal “free” recipes (that they could get just by signing up for a newsletter?) I’m disappointed in them…I’m also upset because some members & guests lost their recipes due to someone posting content that doesn’t belong to them. NOT NICE! (Whoever you are…)
I also feel bad because this had to have caused a ton of additional work for Cindy and Doug…moving the recipes, answering a zillion emails about the recipes’ location & pleas for missing recipes, & so on. I wonder who did this…did anyone else see the posting? But anyway, I guess we’ll all be downloadin’ fools from now on…right? When my newsletter shows up now? I’ll be getting straight to work! ;D ~Kat
Oh, no!!! I just got back from a “girl’s weekend” with my sister and niece to find that Cindy and Doug’s hard work was stolen. Yes, Kat, it seems strange that someone would steal free information…until you realize that if that person posted it on his/her website, he/she must have been claiming it his/her own work. What a jerk…but I truly believe that “what goes around, comes around.”
I think I must have lost some of those recipes, too. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had the time to download them. I thought I was safe by keeping the emails.
Argh, I wish I’d known about this before!
I’m usually pretty good with downloading the recipes every week, saving the files and adding them to my table, but after being ill last summer I let a lot of things slide. And once I’m out of the habit of doing something, it’s really hard for me to get back into it. So I hadn’t downloaded the recipes since Volume 26, since I thought I could get them whenever I wanted, and have only just started catching up.
Last night I started working on my magnetic colour chips idea, which inspired me to get on with the downloading of the remaining recipes – of course now I have MONTHS of recipes missing, even the recent ones. Only 34-B works, all the other links direct me to the Back Issues page as if I don’t own the appropriate back issue even though I own everything (but of course the B series aren’t part of the members package).
Sigh. It’s killing me having these giant holes in my recipes table, and by my reckoning it will be a YEAR before all the recipes I’m missing cycle around again. Cindy, is there any way I can get them sooner? I need 26-B to 33-B inclusive, and I’d be happy to pay for them.
@Silverleaf: … yes I’m working on a solution to set up a secure archives resource for the B-series color recipe cards… so you won’t have to wait a year for them to cycle around again. As soon as Doug and I have everyone switched over to the new payment system, the recipe archives is the next big project on our list to get done. Thanks for your patience.
@Cindy Lietz: Thanks for the quick reply! That’s great news. :) Please excuse my impatience, I know you guys have a lot to do, I’m just enthusiastic about my new project!
