One more question:
Should I be putting an armature in my cuff bracelets?
Whether I use sculpey III or premo they have broken.
I bake per pkg temp and at 20 min portions. for example:
Extruded half round shaped around can and baked 20 min
Applied inside clay and baked 20 min dipped in ice water for 1/2 hour ish. Tried on and it broke…
Dang again!

That’s good that you found the mats Christie. I think you are really going to love using them! In regards to the cuff bracelets, I do prefer to use armatures, like a brass cuff base to add my clay to. But it also sounds like you are not baking your clay long enough. Do a search at the top of the page for baking. There are tons of videos on this site that will help you to bake a stronger polymer clay that won’t be as vulnerable to breakage. If you also do a search on ice water, you will find that I found that plunging in ice water did not actually make your pieces stronger. All it does is make them colder and stiffer, until they return to room temperature, where they go back to being the strength they were before they went into the ice water.
Does it matter that I bake in 20 minute segments ( total of 60 to 80 minutes depending on the number of layers I add)?
Also, I’m baking in my convection oven in a baking bag.

Yeah that should be fine for your cuffs as long as they are at the right temp. Just make sure to watch the other videos, because they will definitely help. Good luck!
Hi Cindy, love the sugar leaves mat but can’t believe how expensive they are! I did some research and the best price would probably be at Michaels with a 40 or 50% off coupon.
I checked both your links but could not find the leaves at either one of them so I hope our Michaels carries it.
This mat is only $10 in the US so I don’t think they are that expensive. Rubber stamps are that and more. The 50% off coupons do make them much more reasonable though, I agree. I have looked everywhere for the leaves mat specifically, but it looks like it is now sold out pretty much everywhere. I will try and find another link as soon as I can. You may be able to find it in your local Michaels though. Good luck! Glad you find the idea intriguing!

Thanks for a great video! Really a fantastic technique. I have tried a couple of butterflies (different brand of mat) and found I had a lot of clean up after removing from mat. Need to neaten things up a bit. Any hints on spreading the liquid clay? Also do you have any suggestion for which glue or attachment method for attaching the motifs to glass? Thanks for all your great videos and doing all that work to make our jobs easier.

Hi Liz, in the video I believe I mentioned that it is good to scrape back and forth with your gift card or scraper so that you remove everything sitting on the top. Also doing a careful wipe with a baby wipe can clean it even further. As far as adding the to glass, I.d have to play with it myself to see which was the best way to do it. Super glue may be sufficient , but like I said, I would have to test that to be sure. Thnak you for your kind comments!

I think it would also be interesting to try do the thin layer to get the veining in pearl, gold, or silver (with the associated scraping) and then go over it again with liquid clay that’s been colored with alcohol ink and not scrape it to get a thicker leaf that is dual color.
Yes Charline that sounds like a cool idea! I see if I can try that in a Studio Cam video real soon. You could get some very pretty effects with a technique like that.
