Let’s Go To The Movies Box of Popcorn Earrings: Nothing says Summer like going to the movies with friends. And what goes hand in hand with a night out at the cinema? Popcorn of course. This Saturday evening, why not wear these playful polymer clay Popcorn Earrings as you head on out to the movies with your girlfriends? Not only are they totally fun to wear… but they are calorie free too! These funky earrings were created with slices taken from a polymer clay cane of my own design. Then each popcorn box was baked, sanded and coated on both sides with a UV Resin to give strength and a glossy shine. The handmade earwires were made using rosy flame dipped copper headpins that I forged myself and formed into a gentle curve. They are very light and comfortable to wear. The tiny box of popcorn is 1 inch (2.5cm) in length, with the total length of each earring being approx. 1.5 inches (4cm). Price: $12 (US) – If you are interested in purchasing the Let’s Go To The Movies Earrings shown in today’s gallery post, then send me an email. Be sure to include your full mailing address so I can work out the shipping cost for you. Please note that if you purchase these earrings, you will have to supply your own popcorn LOL.

OMG, they are adorable !!!! These earrings are a good example of thinking “outside the box” , or should I say popcorn box. My daughter is working at a movie theater. These are cute, cute, cute.
I would love to see a tut on this.
Anna-Des Moines, Iowa
@Anna Sabina: Anna from Des Moines, Iowa I live in Fort Madison Iowa and was wondering if you have an account on facebook so I could correspond with you. I would love to meet you sometime when I am feeling well. Maybe we could meet somewhere between Des Moines and Fort Madison, If you were to contact through facebook my name is Peggy Barnes I could give you my email address and maybe we could get to know each other better. I love the idea of getting to know someone better here in our clay family. Do you know if anyone else is from Iowa. Hope you get this message. If I don’t hear from you in a week or so. I will try to reach you through a different comment here at Cindy’s blog.
Uuuuuugggggs, Peggy
@Peggy Barnes: Oh, that would be so nice if it could work for you two! The only other person I can remember being from Iowa is June Frederick, but I haven’t seen comments from her lately. Not sure why~ Anyway, hope it works out, I’d love to hear about another meet-up!
@Phaedrakat: Kat I would love to meet with everyone here in our clay family. I know it is not possible but oh what fun that would be. I would love to meet you. Maybe I can make it out west again. Don’t remember for sure what part of California you life in but I love the coast line from Oregon to Northern California. It is so beautiful. Hearing all about Ken and Carolyn just makes you want to meet everyone. There are so many kind hearted people here in this family. What a true pleasure it would be to spend time with everyone.
Hope you are finally feeling better. Other than some pretty bad migraines my fibro has settled down a little the last of this month. I pray God will give me the strength to continue with all the correct things I need to do. Having an even better July would be wonderful. But I will take what I can. God has a plan and I will do my best to follow it.
love and Uuuuugggggs, Peggy
@Peggy Barnes: It sure would be fun to meet. I just know that you are the sweetest thing, and I’m sure it would be fun to meet you. I’m just not sure I’m much fun to meet anymore. I think I’m probably a lot more fun via computer. In person, I am always moaning and groaning, shifting and trying to find a more comfortable position every few minutes. My own family is sick of me, so I don’t think I’m very impressive anymore. It’s a fun ‘dream’ for me, though, to travel, and to meet up like Ken & Carol did.
Just a decade ago, I was a world traveler—living abroad, and vacationing in Europe & Asia. But the last time I flew was a good 6 years ago (I think) and it was miserable. I had to take extra pain meds to make it all the way. I live in Southern California, but I agree that the Northern coastline is beautiful. My FIL lived in Sacramento for a long time; we used to travel from here to there frequently, taking in the Northern California coastline every few visits to see its beauty. We rarely went north of San Francisco, though—always in a hurry to get home after our visits. It’s so gorgeous up there, too. Wish we had taken a little more time to see it!
Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I think having meet-ups are a great idea, and I’d love to watch them happen over the blog (with photos, like Ken & Carolyn provided!) But, I know it will be a long time before I’m able to be a part of the fun like that. I’m just not going to get better without some additional surgeries, which I can’t have right now. I know my neck will feel a little better, though; it should happen pretty soon. (When they finish the pool next week, the family will have better things to do than stress ME out, so that should help — LOL.)
I hope that you’re able to have a meet up, Peggy. You’ve got a couple people fairly close, so it could happen! Or maybe someone will be able to organize a big meet, where lots of people will show. If it was close enough to you, could you go? Do you have travel resources? (I know that would be another “difficult” part for me.) Anyway, I hope that these better days you’ve been having move into an even better month. You certainly deserve it. I hope that the migraines go away, too, and that you have all the strength you need. I long to hear that you’ve been able to clay, and able to play with your lovely grandkids.
Uuuggs to you, Peggy, the more painless, the better!
They are cute but I don’t want a tute (thinking of becoming a rapper lol)
These are great, I may not be the sharpest knife in the draw when it comes to engineering canes (as attested to my DOH! moment with the mitered cane) but I think…THINK I’ve got this one figured out, my only question is where are the dancing the soda cup and candy bar (kinda dating myself here) ;D
@Ken H:Ken,
Just watch-you’ve probably given Cindy the perfect challenge in cane creation. Those dancing cuties are always a fun part of waiting for the movie to start.
@Elizabeth S.: I was thinking of the old black and white ones from the reel change intermissions at the drive-in’s (again I date myself)
@Ken H: You aren’t the only one who remembers those little guys! *grin* Don’t forget the talking hamburger and hotdog too…
~Lisa :)
@Lisa Whitham: Thanks, I knew there were other characters but couldn’t remember what they were.
@Ken H: Oh, I know what you mean now. I remember those days well.
Another situation where I would like to borrow the creative part of your brain for a little while. I never cease to be amazed at what is in there.
They are way too cute!!! Don’t think I would need a tutorial either. Looks pretty easy to figure out! Thanks Cindy.
Adorable..!! You think up the neatest things Cindy!!! No need for a tute here, I think I could make these if I wanted to.
~Lisa :)
These are absolutely darling…..what a nice idea to give to your nieces.
Andrea
Those look so fun! They look pretty easy to make.. I just made some Pandora beads this morning.. I made my first Rose Cane without a tutoral.. it turned out pretty good concidering it was my first rose cane. I’ll have to blog them.
I am still waiting on that Butterfly Wing Tutorial… Hint, Hint…..
@brenda: Your rose cane is great! Are you going to share how it was done?
@carolyn: You can check on my blog now about how I made the rose cane ;)
@brenda: Brenda, I just looked at your blog. The blog itself is beautifully done, and your work is wonderful. I was so impressed by the video of your pendants…and the background music fit perfectly. I don’t know how you have the energy to make all these beautiful things after caring for all those kids! You must be the energizer bunny!
@Linda K.: Well ‘ I really haven’t done much of anything as of this except help the tween girls make bracelets out of shrink-a-dink paper. I normally do most of my claying on my slow days when the kids go down for their nap. Right now I am swomped with ten children so too busy to clay. When I do make a cane I normally already have pictured in my mind what I want to make w ith it.
why does going to the movies seem so much more fun in America than going to the cinema in England. Also your drive in movies look very cool ,cant have anything so wonderful here as 1/ we would get soaked or 2/ freeze to death
.Anyway Cindy your earrings are grate fun and so are your copper wires maybe a daft Question but how did you get the ball red?
@Carole Holt: unfortunatly I’ve lived through the demise of the Drive-In here in the states, land values went up and the drive-ins couldn’t remain profitable, while there are still drive-ins left they’re few and far between nowdays.
@Ken H: Boy” those were the days when we had Drive-ins. A car load could get in for just a few bucks.. We had one here that was still open until last year. Not many left. I think there is one in Louisville’ Ky still open.
Thanks guys for all the comments… I appreciate that! Just thought I’d answer a question that got missed.
@Carole Holt: You get the red ball on the end of the headpin by melting the end of the wire with a torch and then dropping it into water while the end is still red. There is a post with some free videos on how to make balled headpins. I have linked my name to the post where you’ll find those videos.
These are the most ADORABLE earrings I have ever seen!! You are SO talented!! I’m glad that I found your blog…and I will be popping back in regularly. ;-)
I would enjoy a tute on these even if I could figure it out because it always goes right back how Cindy’s version would be easier and much less time consuming. Like that song that always runs thru my mind when doing one of Cindy’s tutes “Anything you can do I can do better” only for me it goes ” Anything I do Cindy does better ” I get a lot out of any tute. I say yes.
Uuuugggs to all, Peggy
These are really sweet, but I’m ok without a tute for now. No worries though if others would like one :)
OK, how many people who went to the Drive In Movies drove off with the speaker still attached to their car?
Cindy, what cute popcorn earrings! Such a clever idea, and they make me remember the dancing concessions, too. I admit it, consider me “dated” as well! Those were cute intermission ads, though. Remember the scene in “Grease”, where John Travolta sings Sandy? All the soda, candy, hotdogs and popcorn, dancing in the background? Ah….
@Anna Sabina: I admit it, I’ve tried to drive off with the speakers! I also ended up with a dead battery a couple of times. Once I was in my new, still “unfamiliar” car, and had the movie playing on my car’s stereo. I had the ignition switch in the wrong position, though, and the battery went dead before the movie was over. I learned that people aren’t very helpful about giving “jumps” late at night, especially after watching a scary movie!
I mostly have really FUN drive-in memories, though. My parents used to take us all the time when we were kids. It’s sad how run-down they are now, but we still have two 3-screen drive-in’s in my city. Although it’s an inexpensive way to see a movie, I haven’t been in a long time…
@Phaedrakat: Oh, I’m so jealous that you still have drive-in theaters near you. Outings to the drive-in with my family are some of my favorite childhood memories. Ours had a small amusement park just in front of the screen to keep kids busy before it got dark enough to show the movie…with a ferris wheel, miniature golf, and a little train that was run by a college student we called “Happy.” He was my first crush when I was about 5 years old. :)
@Linda K.: One of our theatres used to have the little amusement park, too. I never had a cutie named “Happy” to crush on back then, though. ;D The park/rides have been gone for years now. It seemed like the drive-in’s would completely disappear, like all of the others from my youth. But there was a sudden, new popularity, and they were able to stay open.
About 7 yrs ago, my family started a movie night, trying to go once or twice a month. We’d go in several cars, and take food, toys for the kids, etc. It was quite fun; everyone had a blast. Then they raised the prices, and everyone started getting too busy; so we stopped going. I saw on the website that the prices are pretty low now. Maybe we’ll try another “family movie picnic” again this summer. You and Cindy’s Popcorn Earrings have got me thinking about it!
@Phaedrakat: Oh, that sounds like so much fun! What a great way for the family to get together and have a good time.
So many little (maybe even not so little) girls I know would love these popcorn earrings and I’d really like to see Cindy’s technique for this cane. What a brain that woman has – she could just about rule the world! Love the wire wrapped agate rings too. So much to learn. Rock on, Cindy!
Now I need to go to the movies. There are two movies I want to see. Toy Story and Karate Kid.
@Claycass: Me too! I’d also like to see “Night & Day!” I love action/suspense flicks. Add in Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz, and I’ve got to see it… (I rarely go to the movies anymore because of my bad back. I’ve got to take a lot of pain meds to sit through a movie. So I can only choose one of these.)
Since I can only see one now, and the rest when they come out on DVD/Blu Ray, which will it be? Are you going to see both of yours? I heard something about Toy Story, do you want me to tell you? I don’t want to spoil anything. It’s not about the plot, but…
LOL with Anna driving off with speakers! Done it more than once myself.
Coastal drive in when we were kids, parents only rarely agreed to subject themselves to a metal station wagon packed with sugar hyped kids, LOL.
Love the quichy (is that a word?) take on the party favors. Hotdogs, super slides in the fun yard, and ticket receipts are my choices for more fun.
Wish for those days back, provided the fog stayed at sea (cannot tell you how many times the place cleared out because folks could hear but not see), window screens to block noseeums and mosquitoes, and less stressed parents. We four kids had so much fun.
@Jocelyn: There were four of us (kids,) too, Jocelyn! We had so much fun… Sometimes my parents didn’t have enough money, though, and they couldn’t bear to tell us we couldn’t afford to go to the movies. SO, my dad would hide in the truck on the way in. I am so embarrassed! He passed away when I was a teen, or I would be asking him now, “What were you thinking?” There’s another memory from the good ol’ days… ???
Kat, next year, think we have a large enough membership to start some regional get-togethers like that one that was so successful in England.
So many talented and truly nice and fun peeps here, it’s a can’t miss weekend. Myself, want to save up and hit the “Michigan girls” meet and great. What a state, beautiful, and loaded with artists.
Hopefully scheduling another run next year around my birthday, so that would be the week of June 11th, 2011. Have a few other committments, but, surely I could fit a day or two into claying with some experts.
What do you folks in Michigan think? How many would be interested? Is there someone here (with an excellent re-done studio, hint, hint) that could host for the day?
