Video #749: Chrysanthemum Cane… kicked up a notch… using a shifted color blend, metallic accent and an easy feathering technique.
In today’s video I was going to show you how to make the classic polymer clay flower cane called the Chrysanthemum Cane… but everyone makes that! So I decided to ‘kick it up a notch’ and update this flower cane with a color shifted teardrop blend, a metallic accent and some extra feathering, all while keeping things simple and relaxed!
This is kind of a long video, but since I know that many of you are craving a new tutorial from me, I thought I could give a great little mini lesson that should keep those creative juices flowing for a bit until we can get ‘back to normal’… as if the word ‘normal’ could ever be applied to us ;)
Any who… as you will see in today’s video, the cane is simple and relaxed (and at times even looks like a ‘hot mess’) but it magically pulls together into a wonderfully delicate and pretty flower cane that I am sure you will be as delighted by as I was when I cut into this cane for the first time.
All you will need is some Premo Fuchsia, Orange, Cadmium Yellow, 18K Gold Premo Accents, a pasta machine or clay roller, an old gift card and a clay blade.

Lovely cane, red usually isn’t my colour but the colour mix here is great, think it would also look good with a blue/greenish theme and a purple/lilac theme. Never heard of a Zinnia flower before today.

Thank you Marie! I take it that the Zinnia isn’t in the UK then? I believe it is a plant that originates from Mexico. They are an annual that goes quite easily in warm weather so they are quite common in planter boxes around here in the summer. They are lot like a Chrysanthemum, only they tend to be brightly colored. That is why I chose it for the name of my cane.

I love Zinnas, they are usually easy to grow and they have those large bright flower heads. Great for cut flowers too. This would be a pretty flower cane no matter the colors. Thanks Cindy for another great tut.

Hi Serena, I use UV resin. Just do a search for it in the search box and you will find the info you need.

I tried this right away in the colors you showed, and in purple, blue, and green with silver. I accidentally rolled the pink one too flat and it turned into this gorgeous pattern with a sort of Indian look. They are so pretty and were so easy. I already have items ready to sell at the Market tomorrow. More projects like this, please! Thanks.
