- Here with Mark and Becky Sue Mizell in the trailer at the campsite in Fort Stevens State Park, Oregon on our third PcT Roadtrip.
- They are from a small town close by, called Gearhart. It’s near Seaside, Oregon.
- Becky Sue and I spent some time together in the afternoon with our JoolTools.
- Doug and I went to the beach and the river since we’ve been here.
- Tomorrow we will be doing some Kayak Crabbing which is a new venture for me.
- Mark teased me how dangerous it was, though he very seldom loses anyone and that my audience could be rest assured of seeing me again at some point… :)
- Becky Sue told me that Mark had just started making some earrings for their Market Booth, and that we should share them with you all.
- Named Fly Faces… they have polymer clay bead faces and fishing fly bodies.
- Mark makes the earrings using fly tying techniques and polymer clay beads. The beads are all made by Becky.
- Adorable designs with feathers and spiky feather/fur hair.
- One design looks very much like a Royal Coachman Fhishing Fly, using red chenille, peacock herl and pheasant feathers.
- Mark said that he has noticed that more women are taking up the sport of fishing these days.
- One pair of earrings used beads made by Becky from my Crocus Bead Tutorial.
- Mark’s day job is as a high school teacher and he did a class built around the book, A River Runs Through It. He then taught some of his students how to make these fly face earrings. One girl text-ed a photo of her project to her aunt who got worried they were up to no good making demonic/voodoo dolls in class… all a big misunderstanding LOL!
- Mark’s plays a quick jingle on his harmonica… he would have played more except that his instrument had been assembled incorrectly when he cleaned it last… next time :-)

I’m so intrigued by these fly face earrings. I would love to know the process and especially would like to know what makes the hair for these faces. Are we going to see something similar in a video soon? I’d love to make a pair for myself to show off. Or…where can we buy a pair if that isn’t something we’ll be showed.

I too was intrigued and wanted to see a demo of someone making a fly. I found this youtube video that showed someone making fishing flies. There were lots of other videos too, but this one gave me a good overview. What patience and skill! I think I’ll stick to clay. (: Lena

Great video. It is amazing how polymer clay can span so many different styles.
We are in Florida and go crabbing. We have blue crabs. What kind were those? They look pretty large.
Hi Lena, yeah some of them were huge! I believe they were rock crabs but Doug is the marine biologist (no actually he is), so if I’m wrong he can correct me. It was really fun… I had never Kayaked before let alone did Kayak Crabbing. After trying it once, Doug and I want to buy a Kayak to take on our Roadtrips!
They are Dungeness Crabs :-)

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to watch the video. Cindy and Doug are the fun people to work with and I enjoy the time we have together when they come down and see us.
Thanks Mark! Doug and I loved spending time with you guys. The crab feast next to Becky’s incredible flower garden was a real treat! I hear Doug left his long johns hanging to dry after we went crabbing… so it looks like we’re gonna have to return sometime and pick those up. ;)
