Polymer Clay Color Recipes | Beach Pebbles Palette [Premo Sculpey]

Beach Pebbles Polymer Clay Color Palette 1A: Pebble Gray
2A:
Seaside
3A: Beach Granite
4A: Black Sea

For me, there is nothing more calming… more soul cleansing… and more rejuvenating… than a walk along the beach in the Fall. The waves crashing on the shoreline. The moody gray of the sea as it tumbles the stones along the water’s edge. The filtered light, as it tries to break through the morning fog.

Growing up on the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada, I have spent many hours walking the shores of our local beaches. I haven’t been down to the beach as much as I should lately. Just haven’t found the time. But felt that familiar pull of the sea, when I saw this photo that Doug took of the pebbles on Crescent Beach (about 15 min from where I live). I just knew I had to honor that feeling and create a color palette for you guys.

The following individual recipes will be added to the Polymer Clay Members Library during the month of Oct-2010 in Vol-029 [A-Series]:

  • Pebble Gray (Recipe 029-1A)
  • Seaside (Recipe 029-2A)
  • Beach Granite (Recipe 029-3A)
  • Black Sea (Recipe 029-4A)

Pebble Gray is the soft pale gray seen in the lighter toned stones on the beach. Seaside is the smoky Gray Blue found in the rocks as well as the Sea and Sky. Beach Granite is the dark Brownish Gray found in the granite boulders along the shore. And Black Sea is the inky Black of the darkest pebbles and the color of the brooding Sea, as it churns and swells in the Autumn storms.

I have often looked at the “natural palette” of the Rocky Mountains where I live – azure sky, forest greens and deep clay reds – and thought that the combination was inspiring… but I didn’t let it inspire ME to actually reflect these hues in a piece of art. I am very new to polymer clay, but mixing colors and learning to select meaningful palettes for my bead projects are first and second on my list. I hope to keep an open mind to unexpected color combinations, but also to look to nature for some “tried and true” ideas. Thanks! ~Sue-P

Your experience in mixing the clay colors is desperately needed by me – an old lady beginner! Thanks for the best website on polymer clay I have ever found. At last – I am learning something. ~Pamela-R

I love the color mixing info. and I can’t believe how perfect my sunflower beads turned out. They look so real thanks for the recipe mix. ~Daisy-S

    Nice palette, Cindy! :D

I love how you interact with nature, Cindy. This palette is unusually beautiful for me, and it is also an inspiration when you share how you come by your palettes. I picture myself walking the beach with you. Looking forward to seeing what this artistic community will do with it as well as what you will show us sometime soon? I would love to see a geometric cane here. Not able to clay much lately but just dropping by to read the blog and see the videos as well as to enjoy the accomplishments of others lightens my days. All of you are awesome!

I love these colors Cindy. We live in Alaska right now and these are the colors we are about to witness very very soon :)

Being a very avid nature girl myself, I love the way your color recipes link to nature and the stories you tell about each one. Your stories are told in a way that make us feel like we’re right there with you, and you taught me to tune in more to my surroundings, always watching for inspiration no matter where I am. We’ve got a trip to our cabin planned for this weekend and I can’t wait – got a feeling I may see some fall color starting to happen! This palette’s another winner!

I am a “poly clay newbie” and I am so grateful to Cindy for her ever growing talent and knowledge in this vast medium!! I have only been working with clay for approximately two months now but because of her easy to follow tutorials and her encouraging words I have made some beautiful beads!!! I have fallen in love with polymer clay and Fridays where I recieve more colors and tutorials from her library!!!

Another great palette Cindy and such great photos from Doug.

Off Topic…. I am almost afraid to ask about Ritzs…but it is a very special celebration in my home this weekend as my nephew has just returned from Wales and a visit to my mom’s ancestral home…so special to him and a part of his cycle tour with his girlfriend….how do these kids do it? Anyway I hope somehow she got my message in her own language as that can mean a lot to someone in her situation.

    Hugz to all

Cindy, this is a very interesting palette. Your Seaside color is the color of my house, so of course I really like it. I think Joyce M is right about putting them in a geometric cane.

    Hello Everyone,

How do I find (on the site) the actual recipes for all the colors in the “Beach Pebble” palette?

  10. Tanya L, 30 September, 2010

@DMC: Welcome! The color recipes are emailed to everyone who is signed up for Cindy’s weekly emails on the Polymer Clay Guest List. To get back recipes you need to become a member at the extremely low price of $9.95 every 3 months, and then purchase the back issue that would include those recipes. Then you have 24/7 access to any of the videos and all the A-series color recipes from the date you join forward, plus, of course, any back issues you buy. When you sign up for her newsletter she also has “B-series” recipes included in each one. I guarantee, and everyone here will back me up, that you can’t go wrong in becoming a member. So many have said they thought they knew how to do a technique Cindy has done a tutorial on, only to watch her way and realize she does it better and/or faster. The video quality cannot be beat – all shots are up close, in focus, and of terrific quality so you actually see exactly what it is she’s doing, in addition to her easy to understand, step-by-step instructions. She has taken so many of us from “fumbling newbies” to actual artistic creators in such short periods of time it’s almost unreal, and I know a lot of us wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are today if not for her tutorials. One of her motto’s is “I learned by making the mistakes – Now you don’t have to” and that’s exactly what she does – she tries things out and presents them to us after they pass the Cindy test! So that small amount every three months is actually a great money, and time, saver! I hope you decide to join us!
