I am very pleased to share another PcT Roadtrip interview, this time shot on location with well known Painter / Author / Blogger / Mixed Media Artist, Alisa Burke. We had the opportunity to meet up with her in Seaside Oregon at her brand new studio and gallery.
For me, Alisa is one of those people you come across every once in awhile, that seems to be from the same planet as you (and you thought I was from Earth! lol). She loves her family deeply, is crazy about nature, is always creating with her hands and sees inspiration everywhere she turns.
Like me, Alisa has figured out how to combine all her passions into a creative life and business. Creating art that has an alive yet relaxed freedom to it… and has further enhanced her artistic expression by sharing her passions through teaching.

Hey Catalina… Very sorry about your Tigers. Did you end up at least getting to attend one of the final games?
Yes, my hubby got us tickets for Game 3. It was very exciting but very cold. My Tigers just couldn’t get it together. I got a new Tigers Baseball jacket, gloves and hoodie so it wasn’t all bad.
I made a sign with my dad’s picture because he was the one who got me hooked on baseball. We loved going to games and it was bitter sweet to be there without him. I got on the scoreboard with my sign and that was cool! So many people asked to take my picture with my sign. I should be famous just for that!!
This year has been very tough. As you know, losing your father this year, is hard enough, but losing three family members is very difficult.
I was hoping the Tigers winning the World Series would make me feel like 2012 will have something good to remember. But, having an amazing husband and sons always makes me smile! We got next year and now that baseball is over I have time to get caught up here!

So sorry too, hun. After Yankees elim’d, watched all four games routing for the Tigers. So sad for you all, but next year…..

Great soundtrack Alisa and an amazing kalidascope of colours, shapes and artwork. So pleased there are others “out there” who collect all manner of shells, driftwood and feathers etc. Just wish I lived nearer Seaside to attend your workshops, they look amazing.
Here in the UK we are all watching the progress of hurrican Sandy. So scarey but oh so awesome. Nature “in the raw” can be so cruel, so we are just hoping she will tire of using her force for destruction and calm down to a gentle breeze real soon.
In February I hope to visit a very windy Isleland. This is the time of year when the gulf-stream and storm winds washes up thousands of shells on just one particular beach. The spring tides are running high so we can only motor across at the lowest tide and remember not to stay too long or will be marooned till the following morning. It is a very special place and difficult to find so we usually are the only “Shell Seekers” there. It is magical and I always feel like a big kid again as I battle the wind to stay upright.
So a big thanks to Cindy for introducing us to a very talented artist, lovely to see somebody living their dream ………….cheers xx………………………………………..
Elaine, I really envy you these trips you go on to such interesting places. I’ll bet you pick up some gorgeous shells. We have a place here in the US called Sanabel Island in Florida hat has some of the best pickings in the country for shells. I was lucky to get there once with my three little boys and hubby.
Out here in Iowa we live in a “Sea” of corn and wheat. I wanted to tell you that I just loved that last poem you wrote about Fisher. You really have talent girl. You should start a book of poems. It’s too bad you can’t record it and put it on Facebook on Cindys page. Most computers have a built in recorder in the accessories programs. Have you ever tried that? Would love to hear your accent too!

I am still re-learning how to use my laptop after an accident a few years ago that shut down my brain and left me unable to use my left arm and hand. So have gone back to adult education as had forgotten everything I had been taught, but I’m getting there (slowly) and memories are comming back.
Funny enough my ability to scribble never left me, but looking at some of my old exersise books was weird, as had no recollection of writing them!!
Sanabel Island sounds an amazing place, will put it on my wish-list for when I visit Florida. perhaps I’ll even get to visit iowa one day to see your fields of waving corn, I am loving doing the virtual tour with Cindy as have only visited a few states in the US and never been to Canada although have relatives there, so who knows one day…………………………………………cheers xx……………………………………….

**HURRICANE SANDY EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION**
I just received this communication from the company in New York that hosts the web server for the http://www.beadvideos.com members library site:

Please be advised that the facility is experiencing significant flooding in the sub-basement of the building as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The flooding has submerged and destroyed the site’s diesel pumps and is preventing fuel from being pumped to the generators on the mezzanine level.
The available fuel reserves on the mezzanine level are estimated to support customer loads for approximately 5-7 hours. Once this fuel supply has been exhausted the generator will no longer be able to sustain operation and critical customer power loads will be lost.
The building itself is being evacuated and no remote hands support will be available to assist in any equipment shutdown. Life safety is our number one priority and we are making plans to completely exit the facility. Due to the evacuation, we will not be able to provide any exact updates on when the fuel will be exhausted and critical customers loads lost.
We will continue to work hard to assess the situation and our recovery plans, and will communicate those plans as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this crisis.

This just in… ** HURRICANE SANDY UPDATE **
The Beadvideos.com servers are now back up and running despite the data centers being hammered / flooded by the hurricane.
The team at the data center is doing everything they can to get everything back and fully operational asap.
From what we can see, we’re in the clear at the moment and hopefully it will remain that way.
We apologize for any inconvenience, I think it goes without saying this is one of those incredibly unfortunate situations.

Catalina, sorry about the Tigers. Sounds like you had a good time at the game anyway. Maybe next year. I have to say though those Giants were just awesome. Everything just went their way. Every effort they made was rewarded. Can’t wait for Spring but like you maybe I will get other things done that got put on the back burner.

for this. It is so much appreciated. We are having such beautiful weather here, it is hard to imagine what the poor folks are going through back East. Our Electric company sent over a dozen trucks out there to help those folks out with downed power lines and they are going to need all the help they can get.

Thanks, Dixie Ann. After the hurricane hit I know how lucky I am. We got a lot of bad weather, high winds, rain and cold temps. Didn’t lose power either. About 50,000 did lose power in our area with minor damage. NY looks so bad. Nice to see how people pulling together.
We have all been following the news about Sandy here and it has been devastating for everyone out there. Sure glad our team of Alliant workers are out there to help. God bless!

Although the storm has subsided, the challenge now is figuring out how to deal with the tremendous amount of devastation that it caused.
Everyone’s patience and understanding through this difficult time is greatly appreciated.

We watch the world news at around 6am every morning here in the UK but are amazed at the way the people are coping with this natural disaster. I can only imagine how terrible it must be to lose everything.
I was just a tiny child when we had terrible flooding here on the Essex coast when many people lost their lives. My Uncle and Aunt lost their home but survived. There was no prior warning as not the monitoring equipment available in those days. How reliant we have become on modern technology. Let’s hope the people of America can re-build and get all the help they need……………………………cheers xx………………………………..
Alisa, I loved your video – very inspirational. I live very close to the sea too, and the ‘treasures’ I find on the shoreline can be very interesting.
Actually, only last month, a bottle with a message was discovered on our south-east coast – it had travelled all the way from Canada for 8 years!!
In Ireland, we talk (an awful lot!) about the weather, but thank God we don’t get the likes of “Sandy”. But, isn’t it wonderful how people pull together to help each other in times of crisis. There’s still a lot of good people out there!

Thankfully that was a short outage. The http://www.beadvideos.com site is back up again. Apparently, the server facility just got main line power restored. For the past 4 days the library has been powered by diesel.

Hi everyone
Well ,I live in New Jeresy and we were hit with Hurricane Sandy. This is the first time I am on the computer in over a week.we lost power for 7 Days and had to go to our upstate home were there was power. Before we lost power I had been busy make items for a craft fair that I am particpating in next Thursday … Finally got to do some baking today… I had of withdrawal for a week… It was the pits…. No TV,phone or Internet up there… We had shut it down just to weeks prior for the winter.. Never thought we would have to travel 215 miles to get to stay we’re we could keep warm… We were lucky… Just some tree limbs down when we returned… I know pee who lost their homes or are still with out power and now we have snow … Can’t wait for a litte warmer weather this weekend…
On a more upbeat note.. Loved seeing all the wonderful art work on fabric by Aliza… Its taking me a lot of control not to start another craft hobby.. I used to do painting on my kids clothes when they were kids… Their 30 and 33 now but I do have 2 grand daughters .. Got to keep that urge in check…I have been teaching the how to use polymer clay… The 9 year old(Yonit) has designed pencil earrings and loose leaf pendant…kids in school wanted to know were she bought them… Before the hurricane I purchase so clay for her of her own and she started making more…got the finish them next week…. She loves making her own designs….. I make her my design consultant for Safti’s Creations and any new ideas I have go through her for her suggestions and approval….which she usual likes….
On another topics ..I happened to go to Alice Stroppel site… She uses polymer clay and makes sculptures and some jewerly and she recommends Nappa’s Orange hand clesnsing lotion to get rid of fingerprintes…. It’s a product that can be purchased at auto shops….but don’t get throne with grit in it…. She uses very little … Check out her site …. Lots of addition good tips to complement Cindy’s and others on the site… Well I said enough for my first time back…..good to be back in the saddle…..Ohio posted more of my work ony Flickr account…Dixie can you tell me what you think of them it’s.

Hi Natalie, am so sorry to hear you were caught in hurricane Sandy. So glad you were not hurt or anything damaged too bad where you were at. So many people are suffering there and now a winter storm is coming. You were more fortunate than a lot of folks there. Love the pictures you put on Flicker. Very nice display where you are selling your jewelry. Your new projects are so pretty and I love the barretts you are making. They are really awesome. The photos are still a little blurry but your getting better. Just watch your lighting and keep a smooth background so everything is focused on the item your are taking a picture of. I really like your T-shirt and what a great idea of advertising your business. Hang in there, glad to hear your back online. (((hugs)))
Hugs back… That’s for the words of encouragement…got the shirt from vista print… The flower matches the flower design on my business cards…. Very inexpensive ….. Next batch of cards I will put my Flickr address on it so others can see them. Oh my latest batch of baked polymer clay came out great! I’m into doing mogame( can’t spell when I’m using my iPod….love cutting different patterns through the various color layers and seeing what design happens when you cut thin layers … I’ll post some pictures when there done…have a good night
