- Lucy Clay Tools is a company from the Czech Republic.
- There now is a new distributor for Lucy Tools in Canada… Diane Bruce of VanIslandJewels on Etsy (direct link is posted just below the video on this page).
- Van Island Jewels (stands for Vancouver Island Jewelry, in Victoria BC).
- They ship to Canada and all around the world as well.
- The LC Baker is short for Lucy Clay Baker and is a baking rack for polymer clay beads, pendants, charms and other polymer clay items.
- It has two baking surfaces at different levels, for baking flat polymer clay pieces.
- It also has an array of holes along each of the sides of the rack for supporting bead piercing pins or rods.
- The manufacturer does not include pins with this product.
- But after I had some back and forth discussions with Diane Bruce of VanIslandJewels about how it would make much more sense to include the bead pins, she has come up with her own supplier for the pins.
- When you purchase from Diane, she will include the bead piercing pins with each order.
- This is cool because, to my knowledge, she is the only Lucy Clay Distributor at the time, that sells the LC Baker tool with the bead pins included.
- What I love most about the Lucy Clay Baker is the size… it is 7-1/2″ x 8″ x 2-1/2″ which is much bigger than the Amaco bead rack. This means can bake a lot more beads and pieces on this rack.
- The other thing I like is the second (top) layer. It is meant to be a baking surface, but I it really works great as a built-in tent that protects your pieces in the lower area of the baking rack, from scorching.
- There are a few things I do to get better performance out of this rack…
- I would never bake a flat polymer clay piece on a surface that has holes in it. It will leave circular shadows or dents on the back of your polymer clay pieces.
- I also don’t like to bake directly onto a metal surface. It can cause hot spots, scorching and warping.
- So I cut a double thicknesses of a manila file folder to fit the bottom and the top baking surface areas, to address this issue.
- If you are going to bake on the top surface, then make sure to also tent using a foil roasting pan that fits nicely. Don’t forget to check the height inside your oven to be sure it will all fit.
- I talk about the different types of skewers and mandrels that could be used for bead wires if you don’t have the wires that Diane includes.
- Btw… I have spoken with Diane since we filmed this video, and she will be sharpening the ends so YAY… you won’t need to do that yourself!
- I Did file the points myself, on the pins she sent to me.
- I may also try tweaking the baker with some Sugru like I did to the Amaco Bead rack. See Sugru Hack reference video link below today’s video on this page.

Thanks Cindy. I’ve been drooling over the Lucy Clay’s Czextruder ever since one of my fellow guild members brought one to a meeting. It’s great to know there is another distributor this side of the pond.
Wish this had been thought out a bit more. Great ideas for bead pins but Lucy should have included those.
Have you ever tested the Lucy Clay slicer? I would be very interested in a review of that device.

By the way, I’m the one who made the Polymer “Cane” Extruders and just wanted you to know polymer clay plugs work well as inserts for them. I made 1/4 ” plugs for mine and they work just fine. Thanks. KT

I have been looking at this bead rack contemplating if I should purchase it or not. I am so glad you did a demo on it. It helps one decide these huge decisions! LOL. By the way why are you not on FaceBook anymore. You used to be there all the time and now I don’t see you anymore. What happened to our Cindy?
To be honest Dixie Ann I am getting buried… Doug and I are trying to do the work of about 4 or 5 people so I have unfortunately let certain things slide like posting to social media sites and replying to comments in a timely manner. I should be doing it more consistently and will try to. My priority is always been the content creation, so everyone will always get the videos and posts on time… so at least there’s that. Hopefully we can get some help soon!

Oh, Cindy, I must tell you, I so look forward to seeing you’ve posted a new video but I also dread it because I know you’re going to show me something that I MUST have in my life. I’ve just gone on a Lucy Clay Tools binge, and I have to say the baking tray has COMPLETELY changed my polymer clay baking experience. In my convection oven, I don’t need anything else, it’s amazing. The lucy extruder is the BEST, it is so freeing to use a tool that you don’t have to be so careful with. Thanks so much for sharing your finds with us.

Hi Jeanne, I have a message in to Lucy but I think they may have discontinued the Baker. They only have two of the Black versions of them listed on their site. So if you want one, you may need to get it right away!
