Vid #48: About Using Scrap Polymer Clay To Make Unique Lentil Bead Designs:
If you’re like me, you probably have a big ball of unbaked clay made up of scraps left over from previous projects. I love making lentil beads from this scrap clay because you never quite know how the design will turn out.
One thing to keep in mind when rolling any polymer clay lentil bead, is that the colors will swirl and mix together. Excessive swirling leads to what I call blended muds. Some of these blends can be beautiful if the right primary colors are used. On the other hand, there’s also been times when my muds have not been very attractive.
Not to worry though. Because less-than-attractive muddy lentils can be used as a base bead for applying your cane slices to. But I’ll leave that discussion for another day.

In this “Scrap Clay Lentil Beads” video tutorial I talk about how making lentil beads from scrap clay is kind of like grabbing a handful of munchies from the party mix bowl. Every time it’s going to turn out a little bit different. This lesson is one of several where I show you how to use up every last bit of your polymer clay. Nothing should ever end up in the trash.
The sheet of acrylic plexiglas I use to roll the lentil bead in this video came as an accessory with my AMACO Bead Rack.

Hi Cindy, I have never worked with Polymer clay and want specifically to learn how to make lentil shaped focal beads that will need to be about 1.25″ in diameter with about a 3mm drilled hole. Which course do you recommend for me?
Hi Judy – I see that you have already purchased the Library Volume-001 Back Issue Package which includes 4 Lentil Bead Tutorial Videos. And that was obviously a good choice for you.
You also mentioned that you “have never worked with polymer clay.” So the other course I highly recommend to all beginners is my polymer clay basics course. It will help you get up to speed with everything that you need to know if you want to get really good at making making beautiful Lentil Beads.
The link by my name above will take you to a page where you can see some feedback from other students who have already taken the course.
