It Takes a Village… to Raise a Polymer Clay Community

Lietz Family at Whistler BC Canada“Where do you get the time to do all that you do? You are a Wonder Woman indeed.” ~Illaya-B

I’ve been getting a lot of very kind comments lately in regards to being a ‘superwoman’ and such… wondering how I get everything done in a day. Although it may appear that I am a one woman show, that is definitely not the case. I have an enormous amount of support behind the scenes from my husband and partner Doug. Today’s photo is of him, and our happy little family on vacation up at Whistler Mountain this past summer.

Cindy Lietz is a superwoman; there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish all that she does. I don’t know how she does it, even with her husband’s help. ~Phaedrakat

You are such an amazingly awesome woman. I just don’t know where you get your energy or how you possibly can squeeze the time it must take for all that you do into your 24 hour days. You truly are a superwoman!!!  It sounds like you have had a brilliant life so far. I just admire you so very much. I feel so very blessed to have found you in this big ole’ world, and to be able to learn from you. You are such a positive inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with all of us. :) :) :) I pray that you will continue to be blessed always!!! Hugs to you. ~Cindy-E

I so enjoy your posts and adore the photographs that Doug takes for your inspiration. Just love those flowers in your garden. Where do you get the time to do all that you do? You are a Wonder Woman indeed. ~Illaya-B

Thank you so very much everyone. I truly am blessed to have such a supportive group of followers. But you should all realize that one of the main reasons this Polymer Clay Community even works at all, is because of my dear husband, Doug. Without him, my ideas would be a collection of thoughts floating around in my brain, unable to reach any of you. I am a creative type after all. He is the backbone, the brains, the computer geek and the conductor that makes this symphony sound so good.

Yes I write the posts, come up with the content for the tutorials and teach them on video. But Doug makes sure you get to benefit from them.

He is the editor and publisher at the blog. He directs, films and does all the post production for our videos. Doug wears the photography hat; Moderates the commenting activity when its required; Manages the customer service side of things; Takes care of the Google stuff as well as most everything else to do with business development…. so that I can stay focused on creative activities as much as possible.

When there is a technical issue, Doug is the go to guy. In fact he puts more hours into this little adventure than I do. After all, I’m also a Mom which means there is the occasional load of laundry to get done… among other things :-)

I want you all to know that Doug actually deserves more than half the credit for everything that gets done around here. My good friend Diane says I should have business cards made up with one of those alternating hologram pictures… where my face changes to Doug’s face depending on how you hold the card. Wouldn’t that be funny! It’s so true!

Any way… Doug will probably be embarrassed when he goes to post this article today and reads all this. I hope you don’t mind Honey.

I just thought you may like to know that we all appreciate everything you do around here. And that although you don’t often get to hear it, you deserve most if not all of the credit. Love You!

PS: Thanks goes out to all of you members and visitors here as well… for everything you have done to make this site the supportive community that it is today. Without you, Doug and I would be chatting away to ourselves here. So like it says in the title, It takes a Village… Thank You All!

  7. Catherine, 04 February, 2010

Thank you Cindy for sharing your family with us. Thank You Doug for being such a great help to Cindy and in turn to the rest of us that get to enjoy her videos and her replies to our questions. For many of us, our better halves, are what help us do what we do. Thank you, Cindy for reminding us of how important these persons are to us and now I’m off to find my husband for a well-deserved “thank you” hug :-)))))

The saying used to be ‘Behind every great man, there was a woman’ … now we can just turn that one around: Behind every great woman, there is a man! I can attest to this, and let me tell you, it is very hard to keep going sometimes since Don is now in his heavenly home. He was always so very supportive and, like Doug, did so many things behind the scenes. Doing it by myself is really tough at times. But God does give me the strength, physical, emotional and spiritual, to keep going. Thanks, Cindy, for sharing this side of your life with us. I’m sure Doug didn’t mind the pat on the back!

  9. Catalina, 04 February, 2010

A pat on the back and a big hug! Great job, Doug! I just love to know that there are a lot men out there that do appreciate the women in their lives. I, too, have an amazing husband and I will never take him for granted. I don’t think I ever mentioned this, but my husband was found to have cancer four years ago. We are lucky because because it was caught early and he has been cancer free now. Thank God! And I thank all who visit this blog and give so much inspiration to all who come here. Thanks for sharing your passion and talents with us, Cindy and Doug!!

  10. Phaedrakat, 04 February, 2010

Catalina: So happy to hear your husband is doing well. I will pray that he continues to be cancer-free…

Carolyn: I pray for you, as well, that you will continue to have strength in your husband’s absence. Sounds like he was a good soul!

You know, this makes me think…sometimes we get so caught up in being strong, independent women. We forget to thank the supportive men in our lives! Thanks, guys, you’re pretty awesome (too! hehe)

  11. Phaedrakat, 04 February, 2010

How fantastic is it to see a picture of your family, Cindy! That’s the first one I’ve seen of your fella (I think I’ll do a search to see if there are other family photos after I post here…) It’s such a great thing that you two found each other, and have such harmonious talents! Thanks Doug, for the gorgeous photography, the perfectly clear video, and this amazing blog you’ve created using your “computer-geeky” ways! (Cindy’s words :)

This is one of my favorite places to be, thanks to you two! (And yes, thanks to this amazing community – you are all really wonderful!)

  12. Peggy Barnes, 04 February, 2010

Doug I must thank you to for being you. You must be very proud of your wife as she is you. You can tell by the way she talks about you all the time how grateful she is to have you. There is nothing more satisfying than to know you have work and succeeded in making a truly wonderful home for your children. I am sure the 3 of you are big part of the reason Cindy is so good at what she does. The 2 of you have made a wonderful life together and I thank you for helping her bring that to us in her art work.
The reason I thanked you for being you and often thank Cindy for being her is it takes a lot of work to be the best you can be and the 2 of you are definitely the best. That is what makes the both of you YOU. ALL THAT HARD WORK. SO THANK YOU BOTH FOR BEING YOU AND SHARING THAT WITH ALL OF US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Anna Sabina, 04 February, 2010

We Geek Ya, Doug. I think the best part of this is how your children see the two of you work together as a team. Now THAT is priceless!!
Thanks for all you do, both of you.

  14. Freda, 04 February, 2010

It’s so great that you do so much of the behind the scenes work Doug. We are so happy that you and Cindy can work as a team and make such great videos for all of us to watch and learn from. My husband is very supportive of me also. Any time I mention that I need a certain tool or want to do something different and don’t know how, he is right there to get the tool or to show me a better and easier way to do what I want to do. No chauvinist husbands here!

  15. Laurel, 05 February, 2010

Awww, that is so sweet! You are very lucky to have your hubby Doug, Cindy. I have a supportive hubby like that too. We are both blessed. :) And what an adorable family. Your kids look happy and full of mishief. I love the red, coke bottle red, highlights. :) I have two that are sporting mowhawks. I can’t wait till they grow out of that. But they are both in their 20’s so who knows. LOL.
Thanks for sharing a bit about your family and your support. We are all so glad you have Doug or you wouldn’t be here for us.

  16. lynn watts, 05 February, 2010

Behind every good woman there is a good man. Well for you and your husband and many others, I was not blessed with that gift. But nonetheless I have met a good friend and I am blessed for her friendship. Thank-You Cindy and Doug for all you do to make sure everybody learns and has fun. And thank-you Doug for your beautiful photo’s and all the behind the scenes hard work. You are appreciated along with Cindy.

  17. Melissa Scott, 06 February, 2010

Hi Cindy! Thanks a million for all that you do for us clayers — I’ve learned so much. This is the first crafting hobby I’ve actually stayed with because your weekly videos keep my attention, and I try new stuff! :) I know you and Doug are busy, busy, busy, and I appreciate that as much as the rest of your avid followers! Thanks again for everything.

Doug is a rock. I am so glad you two met and grew together to come to this point. The help and personable advise you contribute to the polymer clay community is invaluable!

  19. Cindy Lietz, 08 February, 2010

Well from both Doug and myself, I want to thank each and every one of you for all your kind comments and support. Doug was pleased to get the little pat on the back, btw. So an extra thanks to those of you who sent him some luv.

If you all want to see another cute photo of Doug (in his younger days), it is in the rock tumbler video clip at the post linked by my name.
