Vid #275: In this clip, hear from two important members of the Roadtrip Team… ~Willow & Fisher
Well our first PcT Roadtrip will be rolling out at the end of this month (August 2012). We’ll be traveling into Washington State and possibly Idaho and Oregon if time permits. The whole RV’ing thing is is new to us, so the plan is to stay relatively close to home on this initial trip. It’ll give us a chance to get our feet wet so to speak.
There are so many moving parts involved with taking a business out on the road in an RV. Thank goodness we have Willow and Fisher on our team! They are such hardworking kids. I guess I should be calling them young adults now. They can handle so much, in the way of responsibility, and their skills are growing at such a rapid pace that they have become valuable assets to our team. I am always so impressed with what they are capable of doing.

So… if you are from the Washington, Oregon, Idaho (or know someone that is), be sure to let us know right away, if you’d like to meet up at the end of this month (August 2012). Here’s the link you can use to get a hold of us…

3) If you are able to meet on a mid-week day (or just weekends).
And don’t worry if you live in places beyond the Washington Area, you can still come along on this trip virtually, by watching the videos and photographs that we’ll be shooting along the way.
There will also be many more of these road trips planned, that will take us further afield as we try to see as many of you guys as possible.

You folks are so funny, thanks for brightening my Monday morning. We have a very tiny camper, and I mean tiny, that slides into the bed of our truck. Looks like a pretty comprehensive list you have there, Willow. I think we should have a Stump Willow contest. Who can name something Willow does not have on her list.
Willow- Is there smoke and carbon monoxide detector on the list? (Every camper should have a fire extinguisher but I am guessing that is already in there.)

The trailer actually does have both a smoke and corbon monoxide detector in it but I have also put them on the list. Keep trying to stump me ;)
Get that right on the list. You are so funny. LOL !!! I am glad they are there. We have a tiny camper and my husband thought it was ridiculous I bought a smoke/carbon monoxide detector. I bought it because of the propane stove, heater and refrigerator. Camper’s come with a fire extinguisher but you can’t use it if you are unconscious.
Gnomes. Do you have Gnomes? Definitely something you should have outside the camper for protection.
Do you recomend any particular type of gnome? lol
Gnomes that do not eat all the chocolate or drink all the beer.
What a great surprise to turn on my laptop to have a real giggle with you all and excited for you to eventually know that you will soon be on your big adventure.
Washington, Oregon and Idaho, never visited any of these states so really looking forward to seeing these interesting places through your eyes.
How nice to have two very helpful youngsters who will really enjoy the experience. They are at just the right age to appreciate this trip and help with the “chores”.

Willow and Fisher, I am so impressed with how mature and focused you two are, helping Mom and Dad get ready for such an exciting adventure. It’s a lot of work, and it will sure add to your resume of accomplishments and prepare you for the future. I wish you two the very best of luck, and thank you so much for making these trips possible with all your support.

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments! I have to tell you a funny story, with all the takes it took to get Fisher’s segment done, the ‘perfect’ one, actually didn’t record properly. Doug didn’t realize this until later on that night when he was editing the video, so had to plunk all the out-takes in his spot instead. Will have to do another interview with him so you can see what he actually has been up to, besides making us laugh that is! :)

Do you homeschool Fisher and Willow or is your school start-up different than ours? Our kids will be back in school by the end of August.
Hi Freda, actually the kids aren’t home schooled. School just starts here in Canada later than it does in the States. Their first day is not until September 4th this year. I think we end later too, usually around the 28th or 29th of June. Maybe being a little further North, our Farmer’s needed the kids home to work for the summer, a little later in the season? Of course that wouldn’t be relevant anymore. But maybe it was when they originally planned out a school year?
Wonderful video, camera shy teenagers, but will be more confident once they are in front of the camera more often.
Such a wonderful family sharing everything and yes Fisher, it does get quite warm in those travel trailers. Doug and Cindy one thing you might want to do when you leave. Turn around and videotape your wonderful Canada so that all of us in the USA and other countries can see the beautiful country you live in. Yes places in our NW, USA are also beautiful but so few seldom see and realize just how glorious Canada really is. I was lucky enough to visit there. Good luck and have a terrific time on your first trip out. We will all be anxious to read about your travels on the blog.

Dixie Ann had a great idea-would love to see what Canada looks like through the eyes of one who is taking a driving trip through it. Have seen promo ads but those are always doctored up so would love to see the ‘real’ thing.
I think your Dad would be so proud of you and yours right now Doug. I think he would be happy to know he was the inspiration for this wonderful journey. You are doing him proud :)

Thanks Angela for your thoughtful words about my Dad. He definitely was (and still is) a big reason why all of this road trip stuff is happening at this time. Life is short. We need to embrace it.
For you and Dixie Ann and anyone else who may be interested in seeing Canada from a PcT perspective, we will definitely make that happen. On one of the trips when we head east, we’ll plot a route through the Canadian Provinces before turning south to cross the border into the US.
I’m looking forward to meeting you before you head out on your big road trip!

FOR EVERYONE:
As I said on Facebook, Willow and I spent the afternoon yesterday with Katie Hacker, the famed host of Beads, Baubles and Jewels on PBS. She is an awesome woman who I have gotten to know through email, but had not yet met in person. She really is just as warm and friendly in person as she seems on TV.
Katie was in Vancouver as an Ambassador for Swarovski Crystals at the Grand Opening of the new Michaels store on Alberni Street. After touring the gorgeous new Micheals, we went for coffee and talked and talked about everything under the sun (but mostly about the jewelry biz).
She also sent me along with a few samples and a copy of her new book ‘Live Wire’. (I sent her along with a pretty pair of Sweet Pea Earrings, with Swarovski Crystals of course.)
Will vlog about our time together and do a book review for you guys as soon as possible.
I am excited for you and your travels. We are part time RVers also and LOVE it! I have not tried working with polymer on the road but I do a lot of beading and finish work while enjoying the scenery. Have fun while you can, and remember that it isn’t about the destination but creating memories along the way :-)

Cindy I was scrolling through your older videos and came across this one – it is hilarious!! It looks like you have a blast with your kids! Are you & Doug and the family taking any road trips next summer? (2014) You should visit Michigan – my area (Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore) was voted most beautiful place in America last year! My hubby and I have a 32′ travel trailer and we could show you around! (incidentally I own a winery so that is pretty cool too :-) ) Keep up the great videos!
