I have been doing a lot of flowers for color recipes lately and thought it would be a nice change to do something a little different for our next batch of polymer clay color recipes. So when I saw this picture Willow took of her little twin cousin’s vintage firetruck perched upon her knee, it fitted the bill perfectly!
I love these kind of simple imagination based toys. Doug has a whole case of old Matchbox cars that he passed on to Fisher (and Willow if she wants some too). So seeing my 4 year old nephews (Cole and Lucas) in love with their little vintage firetruck, brought a smile and a feeling of nostalgia to my heart.
The following Vol-051 A-series Firetruck color palette will be added to the Polymer Clay Members Library during the month of August 2012:

- Emergency (Recipe 051-3A)
- Painted Ladder (Recipe 051-4A)

… Firetruck represents the deep rich red found in the crevices of the firetruck, where the color had deepened over time and was spared from the bleaching sun. Running Boards is the timeworn black with just a hint of brown from the years of rolling over sidewalks and dirt piles, heading to imaginary fires. Emergency is a the yellow pinstripe found on the side of the vintage fire engine. And Painted Ladder is the creamy white color of the aging paint on the firetrucks ladder and the hood of the cab.
I love the color recipe names you come up with each one, they just seem to fit them perfectly. I have printed everyone and had to go out and buy another receipe box to hold them all. I don’t get to mix each one, in fact I am way behind in that field but you keep coming up with such exciting projects I forget about making the color chips! I was just thinking about you reaching your 50th volume last week when I decided to do a spreadsheet on them all so I could find them by their “Group Headings”. After I decided what those would be, then I listed the Volume and the Video number it appeared in. It turned out to be one of the best things I could have done. Now I can find what I am looking for right away instead of clicking through all the videos trying to find the right one. Inserting a new one is so easy too, all I have to do is decide what Heading it goes under and pop it into the new row. 50 volumes of videos is a lot and I decided if I am going to be collecting another 50 or 100 or 200, I needed to get organized. Anyone can do this too, by using a card file if they don’t have any spreadsheet experience. So congratulations Cindy and Doug on your 50th volume and I am so looking forward to the next 50, 100, 200?? ~DixieAnn-S

Wow, Cindy, as the Mum of four boys I saw my share of brightly coloured toys in the early years (in the blessed days before we were invaded by video). This cheerful palette brings a pang of remembrance to my heart! Love the bright colours. xoxo

Love boys toys and the names you have given to different parts of the vintage fire-truck brings back magical memories. Growing up with three brothers i was always sneaking their toys to play with. Much more interesting than my silly dolls
Perhaps that is why, years later I applied to join the local Fire Brigade although I was in the control room manning the radio I still had to do the basic training.Crawling through a smoke filled building. Climbing down the turntable ladder with a heavy fireman slung across my shoulder and learning to use the breathing equipment.. So I say a big thank you to all our brave fire and rescue people from all over the world and thanks to Cindy for letting me use this space to do it………………………..cheers xx………………………..

so creative and such wonderful names for the colors too! My son – 23 has a whole box of the matchbox series passed down to him by his grandma. They were my brother’s collection ( he passed away in an accident at 16) I love those matchbox cars and trucks.
Love the fire truck. As a child, my relatives lived very close to a fire station. The firemen let me slide down their pole ! What fun. The firemen were so kind ! Bring back memories from long ago !!

The colors are perfect. I raised 3 boys and while they all had
the matchbox cars, they also had the complete line of John Deere
Farm machines and implements along with their firetrucks and
the Radio Flyers. Thanks Cindy, brought back some fond memories.

Hi Joel, Although I have not personally mixed those particular clays together, I have mixed other brands together with great success. My guess is that you should be able to mix them, especially since they are made by the same manufacturer. But, as I always recommend, it is best if you test it out yourself. You may find you don’t like the way the material behaves when mixed, or that you lose strength or durability. Then again, the opposite may be true, and the mixture solves all your problems. Do test it and come back to let us know your results… It is the best way for all of us to learn the most we can about polymer clay!
Cindy – Do you have a color recipe for Sea Green? I wanted to make a malachite cane. I tried in another shade trying to match it but it just wasn’t enough sea green to it.
Hi Patty – Sea Green is one of the colors that Polyform had discontinued a while back.

Can I just say that I don’t know how you do it, but no other polyclay artist I’ve found on line can even come close to the quality of your videos and the degree of care that goes into them, esp. at this incredibly low price!!

I often find myself getting frustrated with the color mixing and would just rather create the pieces I want to create while having the recipes available for reference. So thank you Cindy for the color palettes your provide. They are always inspiring and beautiful!
