Delphinium Flower Petal Bead Earrings: Is there anything more lovely than handmade beads made with real flower petals? WOW! Absolutely stunning, Cindy! I love the hue of the blue, and the colors of the flower petals compliment and enhance it so beautifully.. Wish I knew where to get my hands on some delphiniums and roses. Don’t think the local greenhouse would appreciate me picking their flowers, do you? :) Thank you so much for sharing this!

Cromwell, CT used to be command central for long stemmed red roses, greenhouses for acres, glittering in the sun. The owners were more than happy to let me come in after they had bunched and sent the selects, and the floor was a treasure trove of petals, buds, and scent. Just be careful if you are sensitive to pesticides, as they do use quite a few.
You might be able to work a great deal with a local florist or wholesaler to obtain the leftovers, especially after a wedding or large event. What a great source to sell some of your jewelry….and think of how wonderful your home will look afterwards, full of those bouquets waiting for the clay.
@Jocelyn: OHMYGOSH, Jocelyn, you just gave me a smack-myself-on-the-forehead moment! My sister has beautiful lighter blue eyes, but when she wears something blue, like this shade of blue, it really enhances the color! Thank you so much for the headache!! LOL!!

Delphiniums were Don’s favorite flower and I have a few in bloom in my yard. Some things came up that make it necessary for me to return home for a few days – fortunately I’m only a day’s drive away – so I will be sure to harvest some petals so I can make some beads … for myself! Not only to wear to special occasions but to make FROM special occasions. I took flowers from my aunts graveside on the day of her funeral and made memory bracelets with the infused beads for her daughters and granddaughters. The loved them and wear them all the time. Wedding flowers, funeral, birthday, any special occasion can be memorialized. Yours are beautiful Cindy!
I love the colour Cindy! Unfortunately I can’t wear that kind of blue because my eyes are a light greyish blue (they look almost green in certain lights) and that intense blue makes them look really washed out and pale.
Buying eyeshadow really is a pain with eyes like this! Still I can get them to look different colours by wearing different eye makeup so it’s not all bad… warm purples make them look green for instance.
I really should experiment with some other flowers – I’ve used roses and camomile and calendula but nothing else. I’ll have to try borage (self-seeded all over my garden) and chicory (I found a plant growing wild in the orchard and it has gorgeous sky-blue flowers).

Absolutely stunning! These beads look very special, indeed—they definitely deserve the special treatment they’ve recieved here, in these (gorgeous!) earrings. The blue color is so intense, it’s quite striking.
Does the bead color come strictly from the flowers, or is there colored clay added, as well? I’m wondering if these beauties are made the same way as your Flower Petal Inclusion Beads?
(A tutorial I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing yet—I’m still working on acquiring all of your wonderful back issues.) Or have you invented a new way to make these lovely beads, for which we need another amazing video tute? If this is a new technique, I’d love to hear more about it! (I guess you can tell I haven’t played with flower inclusions before…)

@Phaedrakat and others: The technique I used is very similar to the flower inclusion tutorial you are speaking of with a few enhancements. There is actually a custom blend of ground flowers, polymer clays and colors I made specifically for this particular color of flower petal. I will eventually film a whole new mini course on this flower petal bead technique. Since there would be too much information for one video, this course will have to be separate from the $3 membership. If only I could figure out where I can squeeze the time in. So many projects… so little time!
They are beauties! I love the color and the way the crystal adds to its elegance . I love working with crystals too. I’ve done flower inclusions with rose petals and poinsettias. is the color totally from the flower petals?
These are truly beautiful … rather look a bit like lapis lazuli in the photos … is this possibly another faux?
@ Cindy – You mentioned sterling silver wire and silver Bali beads. Do you get your sterling wire and silver bali beads from an online site or from a store? I’d like some info about where Icould buy sterling wire and bali beads.
@Cheryl Hodges: Cheryl, highly recommend Fire Mountain as a source. They just sent their catalog this week, OMG!!!! They do bulk discounts and their orders arrive accurately and quickly. By phone, those folks personify customer service. Also, recently expanded their polymer clay section.

Cindy, these are beautiful…I just love the blue color.
I have a question. Is “flame dipped” an expression you invented or is this commonly used. I just love the way it sounds.
@Linda K.: I’ve seen a few Etsy artists using Flame Dipped in their descriptions, and I really like it. Sounds more arty than Balled head pins don’t ya think?
