Butterfly Jewelry Pendant Made from a Polymer Clay Dogwood Cane

Polymer Clay Cane Butterfly

“The beauty of being allowed the freedom to make something is such a Blessing.” ~Diana-QM

Sometimes ideas just present themselves when you don’t necessarily expect them to. Like the way this Butterfly Pendant shape popped into my head during the filming of the Dogwood Flower Cane video.

As I was waiting for my husband Doug to download some of the video footage to his computer, I was tidying up and noticed two thick slices of the Dogwood cane laying next to each other… looking much like a butterfly wing. I added a little snake of the darker clay to make a body.

And Voila! A beautiful butterfly pendant. I love the colors and the shape so much, that I’m going to keep this one for my self! But hey, I do know how to make another, should someone else want one ;-)

I just love your pendant and i would want to keep it for myself as well. Just another thing for me to try, If only we could make clay hours to do it all in I would make a years supply lol, I have never spent so much time on the computer until I became a member of yours its just great. Cindy you are special.

    Cindy,

I wish I could borrow the creative part of your brain for just a little while so I could see how your mind completes one beautiful idea and then morphs it into something completely different in the blink of an eye. This came to you while you were cleaning up your work space no less! Since we can’t get into your head, you will just have to keep those creative juices flowing and continue to allow us to be part of the magic.

    Love it! :)

Thank you very much you three. I was feeling a little overwhelmed this morning by the number of things I need to do and your comments really touched me.

I am a very lucky woman to have the magic of creativity and to have supportive people like you. Have a beautiful and creative day! You are fabulous people!

Ack! Love it! Oh no, I have the in-laws coming tomorrow! Claying vs. cleaning. hmmm… Mom-in-law would love a new pair of hand made earrings. :-) Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and ideas!

That is sweet and quite attractive at the same time. Your use of canes is never ending isn’t it! I have noted for some time that you also do a lot of work with copper. I’m usually a silver type of gal even if it is only plated – but because of you I’m starting to think along the lines of copper all the time now.

    Thanks!

Just wanted everyone to know not only is Cindy a fantastic teacher(as you will all agree) she has now become a household name in our family. Since I joined her course in July all I have talked about polymer clay so to the reason Cindy is so talked about. I have been a smoker for 52 years now that is a long long time so when I watched Cindy at work with all those wonderful gadgets I knew if I stopped smoking I could afford some of them and more fab vidoes . I haven’t had a cigarette for 3 weeks now but I am the proud owner of an extruder, some tissue blades and lots of beautiful polymer clay, so when I think of cigarettes I now say that will be 4 packs of clay. A great big thankyou Cindy because of you I.m a NON SMOKER.

Congratulations Josie!!! May you clay for a long long time. Cindy and the bloggers are so giving. I learn so much from all of them. I can’t wait to wake up and see what Cindy has sent us. Then, throughout the day, I check who all has written back. I’m so proud of you.

Yay Josie! Great idea spending your “cigarette” money on clay stuff.

Maybe I should start smoking so I can give it up, lol!

  11. JoyceM, 27 September, 2009

Congrats, Josie and continued success in the smoke-free world and much pleasure from claying.

Silverleaf, you did make me lol.

Cindy, what an inspiration. Love the butterfly!

  12. Melinda, 27 September, 2009

How fabulous Josie… and so inspiring! I’ve been seriously thinking of quitting lately. Thinking it as clay money is a fabulous idea!

Love the butterfly Cindy. Love the cane and I love you!!! Can’t wait until my next day off so I can play with these new ideas!

I quit too after several years of “pausing”. I thought of all the clay I can buy with the money I save and that has helped me very much. Good Luck Josie, it ain’t as hard as it seems, LOL.

It truly amazes me on how creative your mind is, you get a flash of inspiration, I need to be struck by that lightning bolt before something “dawns” on me. Beautiful pendant.

Congrats Josie. Great job with quitting the cigarettes. My father died at age 79 from cigarettes. He lasted only 6 weeks after he was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer; we were all glad he went quickly and he made the choice not to do chemo. He wanted to see his first grandchild graduate from high school, he died three days later. I get my creative ability from him which is why I use my “maiden name Sabina” with my clay and artistic pursuits.

  16. Freda, 29 September, 2009

Josie, I am so proud of you for quitting. I know it’s hard but you have a positive attitude and since there are lots more clay stuff to buy, I know you can do it.

  17. Cindy Lietz, 29 September, 2009

I love your story Josie! Claying instead of smoking!!! Your family must be so proud of you! What a great role model choosing a healthy positive way to use you hands and money. Way to go!

  18. Josie, 29 September, 2009

Thanks to you all for your support, been to my stop smoking clinic today and my level is now down to 2. Thanks guys!
