Video #704: So far so good… my tests with this products applied to Premo Sculpey are positive. No compatibility issues at all.
In this video I will show you the results of my tests of applying Americana Chalky Finish Paint onto polymer clay.
I painted a stamped and rolled polymer clay bead with the Americana Chalky Finish many months ago, and found there to be no compatibility issues between the paint and the polymer. No stickiness, discoloring or flaking.
The very thick water based chalk paint is very opaque, has an ultra-matte finish and is an excellent paint for doing antique finishes. It’s thick consistency is similar to a thick Gesso paint and reminds me of a mixture of Acrylic Paint and Drywall Compound. It comes in lots of colors and is available in several retail and online locations, including Michaels.

Mmm like this chalky look Cindy.
I think it would look great on a terracotta item. I have a couple of T-light holders made from ceramic terracotta with this chalky/dusty effect. Just hope it will be available here in U.K. so I can create some things with polymer clay to look like ceramics……cheers xx…
Hi Elaine, I think Annie Sloan Calk Paint is available there… isn’t Annie Sloan from the UK? I know her paint is very high quality, and I’m guessing it would probably have the same properties… though of course… It’s always best to test!
Hello guys, I’m wanting to make dragon eyes with glass cabochons, but not sure what to use, acrylic paint or nail polish etc, what do you recommend? Thanks heaps.
Hi Nat, if the paint on the back of the dragon eye is going to sit next to the polymer like I think you mean, then I would use acrylic paint rather than nail polish, just in case there is a reaction between the polish and the clay.
