Polymer Clay Pendant by Too Aquarious

Tips about jewelry making pendants from the works of a great Canadian polymer clay artist Elaine Robitaille:

This Flower-on-a-Necklace pendant is a beautiful example of Elaine Robitaille's detailed polymer clay jewelry. Specializing in making flower canes and millefiori beads, she sells her work on Etsy as well as at bead and craft shows.

What I especially love about this particular item is the color and scale of the flower pendant. The piece although quite detailed, has a simplicity to it that feels peaceful and elegant. The beadwork is simple and puts the focus on the pendant… where the focus should be.

The flower design was inspired by a Japanese fabric art called tsumami kanzashi, where flower petals are cut and sewn from the fabric of old kimonos. Elaine says she found a tutorial about this unique sewing technique and then adapted it to to polymer clay by creating sheets of faux fabric using her polymer clay canes.

I love the way the folded petals have the softness and design of real fabric and the sheen and structure of polymer clay. Truly a lovely modern version of this ancient Japanese art.
