@Ken H: Gingerbread can come in many different shades, depending on the recipe and the type of molasses and spices used. I have made it where is was quite dark and other times where it was quite light. What you could do is mix those two recipes together to get a good balance of the two. Also if you enter 'gingerbread man' into Google images, you will find examples that may help you more to get the color you're looking for.

A neat option would be to mix the Suede Boots Recipe and then add real spices to get a nice warm color. The spices in Gingerbread are Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice and Cloves. Adding a little of each of these spices would make your gingerbread look (and smell) very realistic. Just an idea if you choose to use it!

I stumbled on pictures of PC gingerbread houses this morning and though wow how cool are they, there might be another brown that I'm not thinking of that might be better, these were the ones that stuck in my brain and that I remembered their names

I'm with you Ken. I'd say the shirt. the boots are coming across a little too orange to me. I guess it depends on who's baking the cookies....:)

@Maria: I'm not sure, I thought it a little darker than the suede boots color. I must be the only person who never did gingerbread for the holidays as a child.
