Handmade Polymer Clay Jewelry Pendant – Christmas Gifts For Mom

11

Polymer Clay Pendant Necklace "Your mom will definitely LOVE IT! What a gorgeous necklace… thanks for sharing."
~Lupe-M

Last year as a Christmas present for my mom, I made a Convertible Necklace that could be worn in several different ways. This year she is getting something less elaborate, but just as cool. It's  a simple necklace design that will allow her to switch out different polymer clay pendants to match up with whatever she happens to be wearing.

This necklace incorporates a black leather cord with some handmade copper wire cord ends, and hammered copper findings for the clasp. A variety of different polymer clay pendants can then be hung from this same cord (not all at the same time of course :-).

The polymer clay pendant in the photo above, was done using my Deep Crackle Faux Raku Technique.

To keep the focus on the beautiful bead, I thought it would be best to wire the bead simply with a hand wrought copper head pin done in the messy wrap style.

Since there is going to be several pendants that my Mom could hang from the same cord, I wanted the bail for the pendant to be easy to take on and off the cord. So I made a large jump ring or chain link with some heavy copper wire and hammered it flat to give it strength and texture. Then used it for the bail.

I am hoping to add four or five more pendants to her gift in a variety of styles, so she can wear them with any out fit. I am thinking of adding the Chandelier Pendant with the Dogwood Flower Cane Beads and maybe the Purple and Olive Pendant from the Mica Shift Video.

I hope she likes it! (Good thing she is too busy at this time of year to be reading my blog. Otherwise it would spoil the surprise!

Isn't it nice to know that instead of running from store to store and searching for the right finding, Cindy has taught us how to make our own? Thank you again!

Thank you girls for the sweet comments!

Maria, thank you so much for bringing that up. It was exactly the frustration of searching through the stores to find the right findings, that caused me to make this tutorial for you all. I am so glad you found it helpful for that very reason. Makes me feel like I am right on track!

I'm always switching chains and cords for my pendants. This is a cool and easy way to do it. I'll probably just use a copper washer and hammer it for texture. Thanks for the idea.

Cindy– on that large jump ring used as a bail, I am not seeing where the circle was joined. Did you solder it?

Cindy Lietz from Making Polymer Clay Jewelry @ 10:12 am #

No I didn't solder it Sarah. I just cut it straight with my flush cutters and filed the edges so they fit together perfectly. Looks like I did a good enough job, since you can't see the join. :-)

LOL! OK when I make the pix pretty large I can see it, but I would imagine in real life, without my glasses I wouldn't see it!
